it's sometimes right to be results oriented when assessing these things.

It's not like he developed into some world-beater either in 2008, he really only got the job because of the continued Rex Grossman failfest.
He went from Any/A of 3.2 to 5.7 in his second set of starts (2008), to 7.2 this year. It looks like he has gotten better. He was pretty awful his rookie year, was slightly below league average his last year in Chicago and is now a top 10ish or so QB in the NFL at least production wise. He obviously benefits from a system that his coach runs, but he runs it well.

Is it possible that neither team really lost this trade?

I think the Bears lost this trade. I still think Cutler, and any top quality starting QB, is worth 2 firsts and some minor player consideration. The problem with this trade is that the Bears did not understand the value of Orton when they made the trade. I think the Bears would be in a better today if they had not made the trade and instead tried to beef up their offense with those two picks and kept Orton as their starter.

I have serious doubts that, if you reversed their roles, anyone ITT would be arguing that Orton > Cutler.

Yeah, and it has a lot more to do with systems than it does weapons. Mcdaniels is a terribad head coach but he's a passing game genius. It took Martz half a season to realize seven step drops weren't a good idea.

More than anything relating to this trade I'm just happy that McDaniels is failing miserably. Really happy that Orton has found success tho

Orton can't help that Denver's D sucks. Denver has outscored Chicago by 28 this year. The problem is Denver's D has given up almost 150 more points than the Bears D. Obviously Denver has an easier schedule. Obviously Cutler is 8-3....he's all good now. Orton now has more yards passed than Rivers. Cutler does have the same yds/a than Orton, Orton just has 130 more attempts.

Are you just posting random nonsense or is this supposed to be in reply to someone?

gee i wonder if orton's having 130 more attempts might have something to do with denver's D sucking. probably not.

The easier schedule, the D sucking and the lack of a running game obviously all come into play. Are we putting down Rivers b/c all he does is pass as well? The D has actually been good in SD, but the special teams have been putrid. The running game in SD has also been bad until the emergence of Tolbert, lately. Cutler has also been out for a couple of games due to the Giants taking him out.

The Bears are winning with their D. The Broncos are losing b/c of their D. Both Os are pretty similar, Denver having slightly more success.

Broncos are projected to be awful again. How long until we can declare the Bears definitive winners in this? 2 years, 3 years?
