Won 6-1 vs Jenkins, was sitting on 46 after nine in the leg he lost because Jenkins took out 121 on a bull finish.

Nice stuff, I wonder if he has any chance of usurping Nicholson as Australian #2 over the next few months.

Cool story moment RE: Kyle Anderson

At Perth Darts Masters last year, I went to the first day with a table of 12 or so people. I only knew a couple people, but was getting on pretty well for the most part with every one else, since I was pretty darts knowledgable compared to them, and well, beer makes everyone social. One woman in particular, I was trying my best to "get to know".

Approaching the last two matches that night, Taylor vs someone and K.Anderson vs MvG, girls asked who was playing when. I mentioned that it was the Power vs someone, and MvG vs some local crab who would struggle to average 75 and would likely lose 6-0. Turned out girl I was trying to hook up with was close family friends with Kyle, was only there to support him and watch him play, and essentially Ash had shot himself in the proverbial foot.

Maybe by the end of the year. A bit of form in the next few tour events would help, he's 1 spot outside qualifying for the Matchplay as it is (Nicholson's nowhere), he's in the Grand Prix as it stands as well

What's happened to Nicholson lately ?, seems to have lost any kind of form.

Lack of hunger or other issues ?

He was in Australia on some mainstream media (along with MvG) a while ago, and generally speaking he seemed like he was kind of over it generally speaking, talking about how hard touring is etc... Not sure whats going on tbh...

Its kind of funny that he was on the fringe of the Premier League a couple years ago, lost one game to Wright at the Worlds and since then would now be about 40th in line for Premier League action.

Also, idea that came to me a while ago (probably while I was either in the shower or on the throne, where all good ideas come).

Rather than a focus on the World Cup of Darts (which is cool I guess, but a tad lopsided), I would love to see a Ryder Cup style event between England and the rest. Something like over a Saturday night, sunday afternoon and Sunday evening.

8 players per team

8 games of singles Saturday night (best of 11)
4 games of doubles Sunday afternoon (best of 15)
8 games of singles Sunday night (best of 11)

Tie it to a charity, make it a spectacle, no way it wouldn't work if they want to continute sportifying a classically singles oriented game this would be a good way to go about, as Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup has done for golf.

FWIW the teams (based on rankings at this point)

ENGLAND
Taylor (2)
Lewis (4)
Wade (6)
Chisnall (9)
King (10)
White (12)
Jenkins (14)
Pipe (15)

WORLD
MvG (NED) (1)
G.Anderson (SCO) (3)
Wright (SCO) (5)
Whitlock (AUS) (7)
Thornton (SCO) (8)
Dolan (IRE) (11)
RVB (NED) (13)
Huybrechts (BEL) (16)

Wow do I ever suck at PEEHS

Ash I can tell you that similar thoughts have crossed my mind in terms of the World Cup being lopsided, but in my head I went the other direction--I'd drop a few of the weakest countries from the bottom and divide England up. So instead of one England team there would be a Yorkshire team, a London team, a Midlands team, etc though I never got around to allocating players to teams (or even finish thinking up teams in the first place).

I had thought of that as well, but had never thought exactly of how the English set up could be broken down. I don't know enough about county teams to give it justice either.

That would be an awesome event in addition to the World Cup.

This idea made me curious enough to look up the hometowns and birthplaces of everyone who is both English and in the top 30 of the PDC rankings right now. Wikipedia has these as hometowns, with everything in parenthesis being birthplaces (if substantially different from where they are living now):

Phil Taylor: Stoke-on-Trent
Adrian Lewis: Stoke-on-Trent
James Wade: Aldershot
Dave Chisnall: St. Helens
Mervyn King: Bradwell, Norfolk (Ipswich)
Ian White: Stoke-on-Trent (!?)
Terry Jenkins: Herefordshire
Justin Pipe: Taunton
Jamie Caven: Derby (Leicester)
Andy Hamilton: Derby (Stoke-on-Trent) (!?!?)
Michael Smith: St. Helens
Wes Newton: Fleetwood (Blackpool)
Stephen Bunting: St. Helens (Liverpool)
Steve Beaton: North Walsham, Norfolk (Coventry)
Kevin Painter: Daventry, Northamptonshire (Billericay, Essex)
Dean Winstanley: Doncaster (Swindon)
Ronnie Baxter: Blackpool
Andy Smith: Studley, Warwickshire (Worcestershire)
Andrew Gilding: Bungay, Suffolk

Dear Christ has Stoke done a lot for darts. And St. Helens isn't too far behind....

So, going with current home towns, from that I have seven plausible regional teams for England:

Midlands: Taylor/Lewis
South West: Wade/Pipe
Merseyside: Chisnall/Michael Smith or Bunting
South East: King/Beaton
West Midlands: Terry Jenkins/Andy Smith
East Midlands: Caven/Andy Hamilton
North: Wes Newton/Dean Winstanley

The top 30 players who would still miss out would be:

Robert Thornton (Scottish)
Ian Diamond White (the Stoke-on-Trent glut)
Vincent van der Voort (until Barney slides even further)
Either Michael Smith or Stephen Bunting (the one who isn't Chizzy's teammate)
Kevin Painter (in the East Midlands but behind Caven and Andy Hamilton)
Jelle Klaasen (Dutch)
Ronnie Baxter (just misses out vs. Winstanley in the North)
Andrew Gilding (in the South East, will probably pass Beaton soon)

With six extra teams six countries would have to be cut, and this year if results hold, those would be Malaysia, Singapore, Norway, and three countries that have earned £0 over the last two years. If Magnus Caris earns another £500 before the summer (and he probably will) then Philippines fall instead of Norway.

So, we'd be adding a bunch of top 30 players at the expense of Paul Lim and 11 guys no one have ever heard of (or ten guys, Lim and Caris).

If I had to guess, the PDC puts a huge value of raising the profile of darts in other countries in its world cup tournament (makes sense, I didn't know anything about darts and got into based on the success of one Australian). Does it suck that Wade and co... don't get in? Yeah, but that doesn't really matter since this is one tournament that seems not to be focused on giving the top 16/32 all the money, and instead distributing it out among some of the have nots.

Maybe have some kind of English regional championship or something? IDK...

I don't understand why they don't have more events abroad in that case.

There is obviously some sense of diminishing returns as well, can't have every event overseas.
