Observation: there are some ****ing good darts players just below the top tier and from all sorts of countries. The future of the game looks rosy.

England win again then. Wales had them in the semi's but Webster's ass went at 3-1 up in the deciding pairs.

Really enjoyed it this year and the format was definitely a huge improvement on last year. Still think it should be pairs only though and the length of the matches extended as the tournament progresses.

The increased variance would be a good thing imo, it would help the game spread even faster to have several of the smaller nations competing in finals and even winning.

I cannot agree with the world cup of any sport being intentionally higher variance.

I don't see it as making it intentionally higher variance per se, i'm more of the opinion that the format as is now is too much of a stacked deck in the latter stages.

The last 16 matches were some of the best in the tournament and those were straight knockout, best of 9, pairs.

I think best of 11 in the quarters, 13 in the semi's and 15 in the final, all pairs matches would be great.

I'd also rather have both players of the winning team on stage at the moment the winning double is hit, but that's just a personal preference.

We used to play a 3 a side cup in our league. You played 3 singles matches, then 3 doubles matches(3 different combos of pairs) and the deciding leg was a trebles match of 1001.

I agree to some of what you said, having the "team" on stage for the winning double should be a must in a team game. Just that darts tournaments are notoriously higher variance shorter format early on then at latter stages longer format and I think thats pretty much how it should be.

Im a guy who likes to see the best 8 teams/players in any sport make the QFs, I want to see the best vs the best. I have never been a fan of underdogs, so maybe my thinking is more biased towards that.

Premier League is upon us

Tonight's line-up :

Hamilton vs Thornton

Wade vs Newton

Barney vs Anderson

Whitlock vs Lewis

Taylor vs van Gerwen

5 matches this year instead of 4 so format has been shortened from best of 14 to best of 12. (so 6-6 or 7-x)

Phil referenced the WSOP in his post match speech so whoever mentioned playing with stokephil or whatever the SN was could have been the man himself.

Its well known Taylor likes poker for a long time now. A bunch of the Dart players play. I bumped into Peter Manley and his wife in a Casino a couple of years ago.
