YANKS want the game to go on because their sports aren't physically demanding.
  • BaseLOL: Standing around for 99% of the game
  • YANKball: Standing around for 99% of the game
  • BasketLOL: Tiny court, standing around a lot due to loads of timeouts

If you're tied after 120 minutes, you kinda deserve a variancefest(which playing 9on9 or whatever would be). It's kind of interesting that you people hate on the idea as I'd expect the stereotypical American to love it. Pretty sure I'm speaking for our whole Euro continent when I say penalty shootouts are elite, it's just massive tension and you get to easily distinguish those with the WIM from those with WIL, seems like a perfect happening for some quality SE poasting. Maybe we all love it because we've grown up with it and can't really look at it objectively, I'm not sure. Making them play longer is not a good solution to it though.
Right, fatigue is the main issue, so the solution is allow the teams to sub more players in OT. Also, I'd be fine if the shootout were kept for the knockout stages and just eliminated for the finals (and the CL final, e.g.) - that way the players would only be overtaxed when ALL THE CHIPS were at stake. But having the cup decided on PKs is entirely unsatisfying.

It would be great fun to just remove the two goalies in a full overtime period. Players would be taking shots from the midfield.

I'm wondering if the offside replay they show with the lines displaying attackers and defenders positions could be used in real time, can't be too hard for software to track it live. Would probably still need a fifth official to watch it though to determine the nuances like phases of play, non interfering offside players etc. Maybe for the future transfer that to a Google glass type device for the linesmen, overlay the attack and defense lines to their perception to aid them. But for now, why not two linesmen each half, and both need to flag for offside to be called. You'll still get wrong decisions of course but surely two sets of eyes are better than one.

Google glasses type of technology is certainly something that could be looked into when thinking about improving football officiating. Obviously the technology and software should be flawless first.

Stats? Sounds like that is garnered among a bunch of scrub leagues as well and possibly penalties after extra time which are clearly much more stressful.

I'm feeling like 85-90% during the course of a group match in the World Cup with the best players in the world seems accurate.

No, because you are facing some of the best keepers in the world as well.

Without having looked at stats it would be easier for a scrub striker to score vs a scrub keeper then two studs (because scrub keepers would not "guess" and as such there will be a larger "unstoppable" zone as a keeper)

guessing is the worst thing you can do, because if you guess your only chance at stopping the pk is to guess right, even if the pk is executed badly. if you dont guess then you can pretty much stop a good % of bad executed pks and on good executed pks then even if you"guess" it right theres a good chance that he will score anyways.

Hot female Cheerleaders in skimpy outfits for each team would improve the game. Oh wait, that's already real football...

Cheerleaders are only needed in sports where every female fan is fat, that isnt the case in footbal.

even american girls who like football are hotter than their not football fans counterpart

Such a misconception. You obviously have never been to an American Football game, college and pro. 90% of the women attending are highly ****able and dressed super slutty.

Can't believe we have to hear this drivel about getting rid of penalty shoot-outs again. It's epic drama people.

Oldschool MLS shootout style is better. Goalie starts on his line, offensive player starts at the top of the little circle thing above the box. Awesome 1 on 1 ensues.

i kinda hate penalty shootouts too. it feels cheap even when you win.

just replay every game that's still a draw after extra time like they used to do with club teams. it would be so great.

When the use the spray, they should have a contraption that sticks in the ground with a 10-yard string coming out of it with the spray on the end so the ref can make a curved line for the defenders to stand behind. Then he goes back and removes the contraption and marks the spot for the ball.

(At least they should make an attempt to make a curved line, since a straight line is clearly disavantageous to the defense and incorrect.)

At least get it right - they started from 30 yards (or 35, I forget) out, not 22. I was amazed at how poorly those went the season or two that they existed.

I remember one tournament attempted corner kicks instead of penalty kicks. That was the worst.
