Race is a solid pick, although he wouldn't fit the plan Wrane and I have. He's not the most charismatic guy ever, but he is a badass.

Race was on our shortlist just because he was so good and legendary, but I just can't stand looking at his mug.

The recent discussion is highlighting what I was afraid this draft would become: people who feel its best to build their federations to make money vs. those that feel its best to feel it with great wrestlers.

Either way, I don't understand the logic of calling Goldberg or Warrior "bad" picks.

I can't wait to get home, get my notes caught up and start thinking through this next pick. I have a couple ideas I like.

i tried pm'ing thedeezy and kdawg to trade up to the first pick in the 2nd round yesterday, not knowing that you and wrane allready did that. i was trying to move up to get steamboat. i guess i got REALLY lucky he fell to me.

I mean, if you had Warrior...you could have him put on a <5 minute match every night. As long as he sprinted into the ring, jerked the ropes around, jumped off some stuff, slammed a few people and flexed his muscles, the majority of fans would never even know the difference.

Again, its a marketing thing with him. Vince has done this over the years and is why Vince has been one of the few bookers to have as long of a tenure as he has had (yes being the son and owner has helped)

I really wish I could break the code of not naming undrafted guys as I can easily rattle off a ton of guys that have drawn big houses over the years relative to the finances of the times. Hell, I'd even ignore Japan and focus on Mexico/USA/Canada. Like MIkey put, if Sting(his blade runners teammate) would've gone to Vince, Vince would've made Sting absolutely massive, and Sting had "it". The Ultimate Warrior completely lacked "it". Hell, I'd even say that John Cena has way more "it" then Jim Hellwig

double edit: okay, finally Harley Race got picked. How on earth has he lasted this long when the Warrior got picked. He's the guy I was lobbying for deezy and I to pic with our second pick, but he wouldn't neccessarily work well with Eddie

Thoughts on pairing Sting and Lawler? I think they work really well together.

I like Steamboat more than Benoit as a babyface (which is what I wanted to pair with Orton) but I conceded the point. Truth is, had I been thinking correctly I would have pushed for Piper in that spot big-time.

You could pay him the money he wants, in theory.

You could also not believe every single word that comes out of Vinces mouth too. Since...ya know...he's not exactly the most honest guy on the planet.

But Warrior really is crazy. I guarantee Vince would never get rid of someone who makes a ton of money for him unless the headache is just too big. He's pretty clearly a damn good business man.

The reason I like the Warrior more than a bunch of less-famous, technically superior guys, is that you'll be able to get guys like that in every round. You aren't going to get guys that were able to become as famous as the Warrior was (even if Vince is to blame).

Goldberg was a great pick, people rag on his in-ring ability but he was just a human wrecking ball anyway....humongous clothesline, massive spear, and Jackhammer were good enough for me...I agree that he just had the "it" factor...he was just a believable intimidating dude, Goldberg was great.

I like the Goldberg pick a lot more than I like the Warrior pick. I don't like either a ton, but that's personal bias (I'm a workrate fan).

EDIT: And yes I'm having the money-making vs. fun to watch for me internal debate. Wrane and I may "lose" this draft but I don't think I care.

You act like everyone Vince pushes becomes popular and that he picks people at random to do receive them. The facts that he was picked for a push and became a huge star both speak to you underselling him. I'm sorry he can pull off a double arm bar back dragon super sleeper hold slammer submission off the top rope into the Spanish announcer's table like some dude who totally destroyed the underground Tokyo wrestling circuit in the 70s.
