It's like how the WWE lets Big Show slide into the mid card, it just doesn't work to me. If I'm running a promotion, I don't want anybody so massive (or conversely so small) that I can't write them up and down the card a bit.
this is a good point imo

From wrestlingperspective.com:

Quote:
ANTONIO INOKI

Professional Success: Most popular wrestler in Japan in the post-Rikidozan era. The most politically savvy wrestler since Bill Muldoon.

Importance to History: Rescued Japanese wrestling scene after the scandals involving the late Rikidozan and the Yakuza were made public. Fought Muhammad Ali in the most hyped boxer versus wrestler match in history.
How Good in the Ring: Credible performer already hyped by the con of his ability. Met his Waterloo as a serious performer in the Ali bout. Could anyone see Lou Thesz ducking Ali the way Inoki did? So it turned into a shoot. Thesz would have licked his lips and taught Ali a quick lesson in real wrestling.

Drawing Power: Considerable in Japan and throughout Asia. In the U.S., it was another matter entirely. When he bought the NWF in 1973 and put himself over as champion, crickets could be heard at the arenas where he defended the belt.

Mainstream Status: Uncontested in Japan. In the U.S., people still scratch their heads when asked the question, “Who was the wrestler who fought Ali in Japan

With the 7th pick of the 2nd round (28th pick overall), iggymcfly selects:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXdfY6XXLh0

Spoiler:

OK, I'm one of the biggest Cena haters out there, but he's still a ridiculous steal at this spot. He's been the biggest draw in pro wrestling since ~2006 and his natural ability's actually pretty solid. With the way he's been booked as a superman in the WWE where he just sells for a while and hits his same little sequence of moves he can be pretty boring, but he's definitely had some great matches back in the day with guys like Kurt Angle and UNDRAFTED. His "look" is amazing and his size and strength make him able to do amazing things in the ring that other power wrestlers cannot.

His only real problem right now is Vince's insistence on leaving him as an unbeatable face for years on end. Cena can get stale quickly, but as long as he has an occasional major turn whenever the inertia of his character makes him difficult, he can definitely be a solid #1 guy. He actually has great chemistry with RVD as shown in their 2006 feud so I think a revival of that feud would be a great start for my new company.

Career highlights:

- World Wrestling Entertainment

* World Heavyweight Championship (2 times)
* World Tag Team Championship (2 times) – with Shawn Michaels (1) and Batista (1)
* WWE Championship (5 times, current)
* WWE United States Championship (3 times)
* Royal Rumble winner (2008)

- Pro Wrestling Illustrated

* PWI Feud of the Year (2006) vs. Edge
* PWI Match of the Year (2007) vs. Shawn Michaels on Raw on April 23
* PWI Most Improved Wrestler of the Year (2003)
* PWI Most Popular Wrestler of the Year (2004, 2005, 2007)
* PWI Wrestler of the Year (2006, 2007)
* PWI ranked #1 of the top 500 singles wrestlers in the PWI 500 in 2006 and 2007

"The Living Legend" Bruno Sammartino

This is one of those guys who I think is good value, but I personally wouldn't have taken just because I didn't want to be the one to have to argue for an older generation guy.

will do a full write up when I get back from class. we're obviously taking the monster heel from the 70s with the NWA belt Funk, not the garbage wrestling funk. basically we wanted someone to work a top program with eddie. Someone else came to mind here, but I just don't think he'd work a great program with eddie
nice pick, would've liked to pair him with foley

cena is the guy I was talking about at around pick 10. Seriously, he is a HUGE draw. He's been the number 1 guy in the WWE for about 4-5 years now. He's got mega sex appeal (as per my GF), decent on the mic, and a good wrestler

Some of the names taken ahead of him are absolutely ludicrous I can't get my head round it at all

If I drafted Cena I would def. have him go back to being a freestyling heel, way better then his face garbage

I briefly talked with Vickrey about taking Cena with our 2nd but didn't want to deal with backlash. He's also the #1 draw during a downswing time in pro wrestling.

Yeah not sure why Cena fell so far. I think he's a lot more talented than most people think and is held back by WWE wanting him to play to the kids etc.

There's one guy who I think might be better though, not sure why he hasn't been picked.

And you get a guy who can legitimately expand the value of your promotion through his work outside of wrestling and is a massive source of merchandise revenue.

If people want to draft a group of guys catering to the purists fine, but having someone like Cena is going to take your organisation to another level.

With the 29th overall pick, The Untouchable Wrestling Federation selects...

Spoiler:

Jerry "The King" Lawler

With Sting as the centerpiece, we wanted to make sure our next pick was an excellent heel with great mic skills. With Jerry Lawler, we get just that.

Lawler started his career in the 1970s and worked his way through the NWA, AWA, and CWA. He won a major title at each stop. He proved to be a solid wrestler during this time. During this time, he even had a feud with Andy Kaufman, proving his worth in the mainstream world.

He gained his fame, however, in the 90s in the WWF. He began his WWF career in 1992 as an announcer. Early on, he came to prominence with an epic feud with Bret Hart when he attacked him after Bret won the original King of the Ring tournament. That attack led to a three year long feud that escalated into Lawler vs. the entire Hart family.

Lawler wrestled occasionally until 1998 when he focused on his job as an announcer. Lawler's announcing has been a staple of the WWF for twenty years. He evokes strong emotion, positive or negative, from all fans.

In 2007, Lawler was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, solidifying his role as a superstar in the wrestling industry.

With Lawler, we get a guy who has shown longevity in the league, provides a perfect heel counterpart to Sting, has top-notch mic skills, and has strong ability as an announcer. We are thrilled to add Lawler to the UWF.

When he fell this far I was hoping Cruizin would take him and have Cena/Y2J.

When he didn't I started to wonder exactly how far he was going to fall and whether we'd end up seeing a Rock/Cena promtion or something that would effectively end the draft right there.

Loving this. Lets not forget the writeups.

We dont need super long ones but some stats and a reasoning is awesome.

I wondered last night where Lawler would land. I guess the related unnamed production crew has me curious too.

Sick. Talking to dnky online about his CM pick and his plans, and I mentioned (knowing full well he wouldn't take them, he said it)

"I'm shocked Cena isn't taking yet. I would of taken him in the first round easy. He's a huge draw"

and

"Lawler could be a sick pick late. You get a decent guy with good mic skills. Also can be a commentator"
