this is a good point imo

From wrestlingperspective.com:

Quote:
ANTONIO INOKI

Professional Success: Most popular wrestler in Japan in the post-Rikidozan era. The most politically savvy wrestler since Bill Muldoon.

Importance to History: Rescued Japanese wrestling scene after the scandals involving the late Rikidozan and the Yakuza were made public. Fought Muhammad Ali in the most hyped boxer versus wrestler match in history.
How Good in the Ring: Credible performer already hyped by the con of his ability. Met his Waterloo as a serious performer in the Ali bout. Could anyone see Lou Thesz ducking Ali the way Inoki did? So it turned into a shoot. Thesz would have licked his lips and taught Ali a quick lesson in real wrestling.

Drawing Power: Considerable in Japan and throughout Asia. In the U.S., it was another matter entirely. When he bought the NWF in 1973 and put himself over as champion, crickets could be heard at the arenas where he defended the belt.

Mainstream Status: Uncontested in Japan. In the U.S., people still scratch their heads when asked the question, “Who was the wrestler who fought Ali in Japan

nice pick, would've liked to pair him with foley

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

cena is the guy I was talking about at around pick 10. Seriously, he is a HUGE draw. He's been the number 1 guy in the WWE for about 4-5 years now. He's got mega sex appeal (as per my GF), decent on the mic, and a good wrestler

I had cena in my top5 for this. The guy is MONEY

Some of the names taken ahead of him are absolutely ludicrous I can't get my head round it at all

If I drafted Cena I would def. have him go back to being a freestyling heel, way better then his face garbage

I briefly talked with Vickrey about taking Cena with our 2nd but didn't want to deal with backlash. He's also the #1 draw during a downswing time in pro wrestling.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Yeah not sure why Cena fell so far. I think he's a lot more talented than most people think and is held back by WWE wanting him to play to the kids etc.

There's one guy who I think might be better though, not sure why he hasn't been picked.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

And you get a guy who can legitimately expand the value of your promotion through his work outside of wrestling and is a massive source of merchandise revenue.

If people want to draft a group of guys catering to the purists fine, but having someone like Cena is going to take your organisation to another level.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

When he fell this far I was hoping Cruizin would take him and have Cena/Y2J.

When he didn't I started to wonder exactly how far he was going to fall and whether we'd end up seeing a Rock/Cena promtion or something that would effectively end the draft right there.

Loving this. Lets not forget the writeups.

We dont need super long ones but some stats and a reasoning is awesome.

I wondered last night where Lawler would land. I guess the related unnamed production crew has me curious too.

Was mentioned briefly in the write-up, it just solidifies his ability to be mainstream.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Sick. Talking to dnky online about his CM pick and his plans, and I mentioned (knowing full well he wouldn't take them, he said it)

"I'm shocked Cena isn't taking yet. I would of taken him in the first round easy. He's a huge draw"

and

"Lawler could be a sick pick late. You get a decent guy with good mic skills. Also can be a commentator"
