Yeah, Piper's probably the number one guy who could have translated to the mid/late 90's without any sort of change in character (and I guess he was around the WWF at various points during that time).

I mean Piper with Y2J is obv nice but it seems like you should be able to get him in r3 really.

Actually I overlooked the announcing angle. Wasn't going to bring it up before but good commentary really does add value to promotions and Piper does give you that too without having to draft someone else later on.

But i still think its too early when there are many career main eventers still on the board

Love the last couple of picks though, interesting to read about the old schoolers

The only thing I know about Thesz is that in the video games, Austin's tackle and punches move was called Lou Thesz Punches.

Damn so mad I went to sleep the other night and missed my chance to be in this

Curt Hennig and Ted Dibiase are probably my fav. picks so far, tremendous value imo. They were both so underrated and in the shadow of hulkamania in their prime.

These 2nd round picks will def. be more interesting then the 1st round picks to see who gets paired with eachother in presumably the "main fued" for each promotion.

Theres one more guy cut from the same cloth as Hennig/Dibiase I can think of that some ppl may over look, if anyone wants the name pm me.

I have our pick once Iggy shows up. If he takes our #1 guy, I'll have to re-do the write-up so it will be a little longer

Dibiase and Piper were two guys I was hoping would slip to me in the 2nd round.

Dibiase was originally booked to win the WWF title at WrestleMania IV. If he had won it, his legacy would be a lot different.

Spoiler:

Everyone's got a price.

Accomplishments:

WWF North American Heavyweight Champion
3 time WWF World Tag Team Champion
2 time Million Dollar Title Champion
1988 King of the Ring
1987 Slammy Award for Humanitarian of the Year

1987 WON Best Gimmick
1987, 1988 WON Best Heel
1981 WON Best Technical Wrestler
1982 WON Feud of the Year with UNNAMED
1985 WON Feud of the Year with UNNAMED
Class of 1996 WON Hall of Famer

Also won titles in All-Japan Pro Wrestling, Georgia Championship Wrestling (WCW precursor), NWA Tri-State/Mid-South, and others.

A top five guy has been bandied about in the thread, but he has a ton of limitations that DiBiase does not. He's a great worker, big guy, and obviously fantastic on the mic.

His finishing maneuver (the Million Dollar Dream) was a dig at Dusty Rhodes.

DiBiase was involved in a great angle where he paid UNNAMED to beat Hulk Hogan for the title for him. The WWF refused to acknowledge UNNAMED handing the title to DiBiase, setting up a tournament for the heavyweight strap. DiBiase ended up in the finals with Randy Savage and put on one of the better WM main events to date.

DiBiase is also the character that "brought" the Undertaker into the WWF.

He has since turned to Christianity, but I don't hold that against him.
definitely didn't expect him to go this early just because he never seemed like a true main eventer to me, but hes real solid

I keep trying to imagine how the spring/summer of 1988 would have gone had that happened. It just seems odd not to think of the Megapowers angle in full swing.

Just went to lunch. I'm back now and amazingly both the other guy I actually wanted who I thought about taking over RVD and the other big "trade value" guy are both still available. I know who I'm going to pick, but I'm not going to give any more clues until I get a basic writeup done.

I'm really surprised one guy hasn't gone yet, but I have no idea if it's the same one other people are referring to.

Not sure about the Andre the Giant pick. Seems like he benefited mostly from being the first monster huge guy rather than having actual ability. What makes him better than UNDRAFTED HUGE GUY?

He's way more athletic than you'd know if you only saw him during his heel run in the late 80s.

And so with the 20th pick in the SE Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft, Team Russ-Vickrey Auction selects...

Spoiler:

ANDRE THE GIANT

Dubbed "The Eighth Wonder of the World", Andre was unmatched in his size and strength in the world of professional wrestling in the 1970s and early 1980s. Andre debuted in WWF in March 1973 as a face, and in just one year, Andre was the highest paid WWF wrestler, earning $400,000/year in 1974!

Before his historic clash with former friend turned bitter rival Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania III, Andre (according to the WWF) had never been pinned or made submit in his 15-year career.

Andre was beloved by the fans for being a "loveable giant" and confirmed that status at the inaugural WrestleMania by defeating UNNAMED in a "Body Slam Challenge" in which the winner of the match would be the man who could successfully body slam the opponent and win $15,000. Andre won the match and then famously proceeded to toss the money into the first few rows of fans before the bag was stolen from him.

At WrestleMania 2, Andre successfully won a 20-man battle royal featuring WWF and NFL stars, further cementing his status in professional wrestling as a man who was considered unbeatable.

During the next year, Andre became incredibly jealous of his best friend Hulk Hogan, who was entering his 3rd year as WWF Champion. The unbeaten Andre wanted his shot at the WWF Championship, but his friendship with Hogan precluded him from demanding a shot.

Early in 1987, Hogan was presented a trophy for being the Champion for 3 years and Andre came out to congratulate his friend. Later on, Andre was presented with a much smaller trophy for "being undefeated for 15 years". Hogan returned the favor and came out to congratulate Andre, however Hogan took over the segment and put the spotlight on him and off Andre, which annoyed the Giant and Andre walked out of the presentation.

During one of the most famous "Piper's Pit" segments, Hogan was confronted by Andre who demanded a WWF Title match at WrestleMania III and famously ripped the T-shirt and crucifix necklace from Hogan's chest and threw it to the ground, cementing his heel turn and ending the duo's longtime friendship.

By the time WrestleMania III began to come about, Vince McMahon had taken the WWF national and was building a huge fanbase directly as a result of promoting the epic confrontation between WWF Champion Hulk Hogan and the undefeated Andre the Giant. During this match, UNNAMED dubbed it "the irresistable force (Hogan) meeting the immovable object (Andre)". Headlining WMIII in front of the largest audience to ever attend an indoor sporting event, Hogan defeated Andre. It was widely known during the time that Andre's health was rapidly deteriorating and that this match was to serve as a "passing of the torch" in some respects to Hogan, who Vince McMahon had made the face of his company. It was speculated backstage that because Andre was so massive, it was up to him whether or not he would allow Hogan to beat him. If Andre had decided at the last minute that he didn't want to be pinned, he wouldn't have been pinned. However Andre did the right thing and followed the plan, allowing Hogan to pin him, and thus Hogan further cemented his status as the WWF Champion and Andre's undefeated run in the WWF was over. When Hogan actually did body slam Andre, he tore a muscle in his back due to the strain.

Andre would continue to feud with Hogan throughout the next year, including a famous angle in which Ted DiBiase, having failed to buy the WWF Title from Hogan, enlisted Andre's help in taking the belt from Hogan. Due to the "evil twin referee" angle, Andre pinned Hogan, then immediately surrendered the WWF Title to DiBiase, however the match was voided by WWF officials. Andre and Hogan continued their feud through WrestleMania IV where the two met in the first round of the first ever WWF Championship Tournament. They were both eliminated due to a double disqualification, which was largely the plan formulated by Ted DiBiase who wanted Hogan out of the way so he could win the title. The feud would then end later that year after a tag team match at SummerSlam 88 featuring The MegaPowers (Hogan and Savage) defeating The MegaBucks (DiBiase and Andre).

Andre moved on to feud with other superstars, eventually turning face one more time so he could end his career adored by the fans. He would wrestle sporadically from here on out, mainly in tag team matches, making his final major appearance at SummerSlam 91 before officially retiring in 1992.

Andre the Giant was the first inductee into the WWF Hall of Fame. The movie "My Giant" starring Billy Crystal was a film loosely based on Andre. He also starred in the cult classic "The Princess Bride".

Andre died in 1993 in his sleep of a heart attack. By the late 1980s he was in constant, near-crippling pain and his heart could not pump blood throughout his large body, however he continued to work and put over other superstars.

Andre was a 1-time WWF Champion and a 1-time WWF Tag Team Champion. He won PWI Match of the Year twice.

I assumed this is who people were talking about when they said "I can't believe one guy still hasn't gone!!!" I think its good value pick from this spot, but he clearly has limitations, and in 2009 his size isn't as impressive as it was in the 70s/80s.

Its 2009. You get the wrestler at any age you choose. Our federations will run for 30 years(until 2039). So wrestlers will short careers are penalized a bit.
