I don't know much about Gatto... Did Sagan try to give him the stage for the time bonus because he is contending in the GC? Or just as a gift?

Sagan was trying to lead him out from about 250m out and Gatto didn't have the speed to come around him.

Yeah but why was he giving him the stage?

Just trying to repay the work that his teammates do at other times. Sometimes common for sprinters to act as lead out men for the guys who normally lead them out. This clearly wasn't a big focus for Sagan given he dropped out the next day and he was just there to get miles in before Flanders on the weekend. Might as well try to share the wealth and boost morale when you know you are going to need your teammates to sacrifice themselves for you in future races.

If he was dropping out, surely the most logical reason would be the bonus seconds for teammate

Indirectly yah, getting gatto a win = more bonus seconds. It would only be for the purpose of leading the race for a few days since gatto had no chance of taking the overall and dropped out before the morning road stage today.

Thanks, I was stoked on them, can't wait for the Flanders recap! (With apologies to the European crew...I'm in about the worst place to try to follow the whole race live.)

Do people here like to ride a lot? Or mostly watch the pros?

Cheers all!

For some reason, I skipped this last time How the Race was Won was posted. I shouldn't this was awesome.

I usually watch the cycling hub videos if I can't catch a live stream. On the pro side, they are quick, posted the same day. On the con side, they are not HD, and they don't contain race analysis like this guy provides. Watching his Milan San Remo vid, I could finally see what happened to the sprinters, which I couldn't see in the non-HD version posted by Cycling Hub.

Great race today! So many crashes but the finish was fun and tactical.

Vansummeren's crash into that lady was brutal... Apparently she's in a coma right now, fighting for her life. I hope she gets better soon.

The broadcast was mentioning troubles that Tom Boonen was going through, which was affecting his performance. Do you know what's going on with him?

In addition to his physical stuff, his GF had a miscarriage.

Yah I thought they had put themselves in a decent spot with vandenbergh up the road sitting on which allowed them to force Cancellara, Sagan and Vanmarke to have to chase. Where it all went to pieces was when they started freewheeling into the Kwaremont and they got swallowed up by the chase group. Would have been much easier to track Cancellara in the small group that they had.

I thought they had badly screwed up in those few moments when Vandenbergh got dropped by the attack of Boasson Hagen but they got it back together and actually didn't have to do much of the work to do it.

Strange race and interesting tactical situations. Hoping we get something similar at Roubaix because the tactics seem even more important there where the climbs dont throw in another variable.

sooo many crashes. devolder had a nightmare. i also hope they buth get better soon, but she should not be standing there. some may say organisers should not make it possible, but i think it's common sense not to stand there.

Contador is legit this year. 2009 version of Contador vs Froome might be close.

Froome still the clear favourite though.

froome's chances are estimated to be around 50% according to betfair.... seems too low to me but I suppose you have to take into account illness/crashes/caught injecting Sky science/sudden reemergence of this parasite problem/schleck realising his true potential

It can be a huge factor IMO. Something like that would be a huge psychological and emotional blow to anyone.

This year, Boonen won Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne and was second overall at the Tour of Qatar. Cancellara wasn't at the KBK, but he was in Qatar and finished 67th.
