Liverpool are hated by the middle aged folks for the same reason United are now, jealousy. And the fact that fans who keep on winning become pretty insufferable after a while, I think it's a law of nature.
This is half right.
People dont hate united because they are jealous. Not around here anyway.
People round here hate them because their fans are the most obnoxious, self absorbed, blinkered gob****es you could ever hope to meet.
During the 80's they were truly hated and they'd won **** all for years. There was nothing to be jealous of. They wouldnt accept that there was a team better than their own back then the same way they dont accept it now if anyone beats them.
Talking to the old boys, they tell it that nobody gave a **** at all about them before '58. Then everyone started jumping on the sympathy bandwagon and the club amassed the armchair army that it retains to this day.
Thats when people started getting ****ty about them. Their new found fan base was huge and none of them would hear a bad word said about the poor unfortunate club they had claimed as their own. - If there ever was any jealousy you can attribute it to this and not the cabinate of silverware they never won through the 70s, 80's and early 90s.
As a side note, the reds I know who go to the games refuse to go in the pub to watch their away games because they're embarrased by the armchair army fukwits that hang around their club, and fair play to them for that.
Everything thats been said about Leeds is true and I just want to add these few notes.
The last time they played at Maine Road most of their fans ripped the seats out (no big deal - we've all done that) but there were some Leeds animals who took a **** on their seat instead wtf? Also, coach loads of them used to stop in my part of town on their way to games in the M/cr area. They always trashed the pubs and they always ran amock in the village. They got a right kicking one year i remember when alot of the locals were waiting for them. They havent been back recently. We still get the Geordies, Sunderland and Boro passing through and Wolves and Stoke stop here on their way up north but they just get pissed.
As for everyone hating Liverpool...?????? Dunno about that and Im a Manc.
One story I have from a journalist with one of the broadsheets: She lived near Highbury and had had her car nicked. She dutifully reported it to the police expecting nothing more than a crime number but was surprised to be told that there was a strong chance her car would be recovered. Everton had played Arsenal the day before and it was common for cars stolen in Merseyside to turn up in London whilst cars stolen in London would turn up in Merseyside whenever the liverpool teams played in the capital.
Aparantly they walk along the parked cars bouncing them, looking for one with a full tank.
Get a ****ing job you work shy set of bastards.
