On what planet is 5-36 'much better' than 15-70 plus 4-25 receiving? So great, he ran less but managed to rip off one decent gain to boost the average, much better obviously.

Obviously 2 of the 3 opponents Oregon has played have been cupcakes.

However:

I don't care how bad the opponents are... you can't say that a team that has outscored the competition 189 to 13 in the first three games of the season has gotten "immensely worse" than the year before. Because that implies that last year's team would have scored ~250 and given up ~3.

1. Bama

2. eOSU
3. Boise
4. Texas
5. Oregon
6. Nebraska
7. Oklahoma

I'll put Texas at 4 because they've beaten someone I've heard of. Everyone below bama is pretty indeterminate now. I think Neb has the most upward potential and jumps into the top 3 if they throttle Texas

1. Bama
2. tOSU
3. Oregon
4. UT
5. Boise
6. NU
7. TCU
8. OU
9. USCe
10. UF

-I don't really know how to really rate UT/OU...I watched some of the UT/TTu game (and other UT games) and they seem to be having some of the same struggles UF is having...just no real offensive cohesion. Both teams are obviously loaded with talent, but for whatever reason (play calling/execution) can't blow teams out like others.

-OU seems to have kept it semi close given their box score this past week. I'm not sure if that score was indicative of the game (since it looks like Airforce scored 14 in the fourth)...but yeah. Add this to the fact that they struggled with Utah State, I'm not really sure.

-I think that the top three teams look much better than everyone else.

-UF looks pretty ****ty, again struggling with a not-so-great UTenn team. UF play calling and execution is piss poor on offense. Those inside run/zone read plays don't really work as well since JB isn't near the threat that Tebow was wrt carrying the ball.

UT and UF have both struggled a lot more than they should and I think it bodes poorly for them when the real tests come. I can't believe an AP voter is voting UT #1.

Also, can we call what happened to Dantonio after the ND game a "Spart Attack"?

Obv James Madison>Boise ST

Obv a joke, but do you ever watch college football? TCU certainly looked better beating Oregon St (and dominated them statistically) than Boise did over an apparently weak VT, who they had to come back to beat and didn't dominate as thoroughly.

Nebraska looks much better than Boise St or TCU, while Texas...meh.

Oklahoma shouldn't be any better than 10th though, imo.

The Air Force box score was not indicative of the game, although they did struggle a bit against the option. Stoops had a very simple gameplan against Utah St to help the team warm up, but obviously made it too simple. They opened it up against Florida St, and looked a little bit better.....10th looks about right until they play a few more good teams.

He actually had OSU #7....obv too high.

Funny that this guy has five extreme high rankings and two low. I think he's just trying to stir things up.

This, combined with the fact that a Blount fumble in the Red Zone is a significant part of the reason Ohio State won at all. Also, while you're citing box score stats, you might notice that Blount was third in carries and yards. It's not a Blount or James question. Blount was the third stringer, behind James AND Barner, who are of course both back this year.

My link was to week 3 by mistake. He has wised up and moved OSU to #6.

FSU #20 is pretty funny now. Ahead of Wisconsin.

Oh, and after all my comments about Oregon ITT, I should perhaps clarify that I'm just pointing out where Victor is wrong. I'm not arguing for Oregon ahead of Ohio State.

I really don't think there's any reasonable way to confidently state, at this point, what order Alabama, Ohio State, and Oregon should be in. I think they're obviously the top three right now (though that could of course change as well, as they play more). There's just so little to differentiate them at this point though. If I had to put them in order, I'd do it like I listed them above, but really I just have them 1a, 1b, and 1c.

I still maintain the Boise should be in here. I'm almost inclined to put them above Oregon but the Tenn win was pretty huge so I'm ok with Oregon being above.

They should be ahead of Oregon. Boise finished 3 I believe last year and broght their whole team back! They also beat oregon in 2008 and 2009 and TCU in 2009. Any rankings with Oregon or TCU ahead of Boise is a head scratcher for me.

I came really close to including Boise in that post, but I have just enough skepticism about how much the VT win meant, right now, that for the moment I've got Boise in my second group of indistinguishable teams, along with TCU and Nebraska. Ranked 4a, 4b, and 4c. After that, there's about 10 different teams that *might* prove to be deserving of the #7 spot, so that's where I give up trying to rank teams this early in the year.

You lost me. Any argument for this season's rankings that includes a phrase like this is one I immediately discount. What does last year have to do with it?

As for the unbolded... that's a big basis for your oregon and tosu argument.

I really feel for Boise bc after the VTech game I was thisclose to making the argument here that VT prob shouldn't have dropped rankings-wise, based on a close loss to a very good team (and factoring in the young secondary). I thought VT would still finish a top 10 team but there's not much you can say about that after losing to an FCS no matter how good they are.

That they brought their whole team back? there's a reason we're putting Alabama head and shoulders #1.
