This is what I said to my dad during the SNF game.

My proposal though was:

Player gets injured, they have to sit out for one play minimum (what it is now)
If a player gets injured, real or fake, during that same drive, they sit for the rest of the drive.
If another player gets injured on that drive, real or fake, he's out for the quarter.
Another player, rest of game.

It will help stop fake injuries because teams will worry about a star getting a stinger and having to miss a drive or quarter because of fake injuries.

And any of those can be replaced by a team timeout

that's actually not to shabby of an add on. it would get confusing for the refs on the field probably, to keep track of who got injured when, but if it could work it would be pretty sweet imo

QB does a slide and his foot goes over=TD?

I can't get behind this idea at all, but thought it belonged ITT nonetheless:

The case for the 40-minute NBA game.

Sure it's been posted but I would like the NFL to let the DB's hand check and bump the recievers past the 5 yard and probably even let them fight it out while the ball is in the air. It would slow the game down a bit and recievers wouldn't be going full speed while getting popped and would help against concussions. The offense is getting too many benefits.

kicking in the NFL has gotten too specialized. The kicks have become boring. 50 yard field goals are no longer a big deal. 60 yard punts happen all the time. Touchbacks on kickoffs are standard. The kickers are too good/specialized. Field goals are made at a higher percentage then NBA free throws, about 85% to 73%. I have 3 solutions.

solution 1. Each team has 1 player designated to kick the ball. He is the only player allowed to kick the ball. He kicks off, punts, and kicks all field goals. If this player gets injured you can designate another player as his replacement but the original kicker can not reenter the game once injured.

solution 2. get rid of kicking all together. The game starts at the 20. A team A has 4 downs to get 10 yards for a 1st down. They can not punt or kick a field goal because these plays do not exist. Team A's drive ends by scoring a touchdown or failing to get a 1st down. Extra points are plays for 1 point from the 2 yard line. The opposing team starts their drive where team A stalls, or on their 20 yard line if team A scores a TD.

Solution 3. Any player that kicks a ball must have touched the ball on the previous play. Example. A team throws a TD pass. The center, QB or the wide receiver that caught the pass can kick the extra point. One of them must also kick off.

If a defensive player recovers a fumble and scores as TD. He must kick the extra point or you could elect to go for a 2 point conversion. He would also have to kick off.

If a QB throws an incomplete pass out of bounds on 3rd down. The center or QB would have to be the punter on 4th.

not sure if it's a huge problem that kickers are too good, but one thing i'd like to see them change is wrt extra points. either move them back 10-20 so they aren't total gimmes that hit 99.9% of the time, or just get rid of them so teams have to go for 2 every time.

so kind of with #2 there i guess.

In my prop, the kicker would have to be better at placing the ball on the kickoff. Too deep, 2 PTs for the other team, not deep enough receiving team gets it out passed the 20, can he put it to the back of the end zone. In my example it would only be a penalty against the kicking team if the ball lands out of the end zone. If it is going to bounce in the end zone, the receiving team better catch it, or it might be 2pts or even a TD if the coverage team gets there fast enough.

How could anyone like those rules?

In response to 1., Chris Kluwe had a post on reddit about that. The motions of punting and XP kicking are completely different, and that much stress on a person can easily injure kickers. It's why no one does it now to save a roster spot.

In response to 2. So a team gets it at the 20, gets stopped on 4 drives, and the other team only has 20 yards to go. Sounds like a terrible thing. Field position battles are a real thing.

In terms of 3., so coaches would have players need to practice kicks and punts, meaning less time to have real practice, and more chance for an injury. Gl with that.

Can't believe I just answered this

#2 would remove most of our ability to make fun of coaching decisions.

LOL @ all of those... what about making the posts narrower?

I guess we could always just force them to kick w/ a nerf ball instead..lol

After a TD, teams have three choices

1) Auto declare 1pt. Free XP

2) Take a fieldgoal from the 30 yard line (47 yard field goal) worth 2 points

3) Start a play from the 20 yard line. One shot to get into the endzone. Worth 3 point, but if the defense intercepts it and returns it, worth a full touchdown for them

what exactly is wrong with making more field goals? you are trying to solve a problem that doesnt exist. i see no reasons to gimmick up the game

Everyone would just take option 2 unless the game score dictated something else immediately.

Only problem I have is that they have almost negated kickoff returns. Either take them away, or do something to make them exciting. I think there is a way to make them a little safer. Maybe make it 8 on 8 idk just reaching here.

Debo's 1/2/3 system would be amazing bc then anytime a team was within 18 points the announcers would be like HERP DERP 2 SCORE GAME

That's pretty much what the NFL wanted to do (negate the return in lieu of safety). 8 on 8 would be more dangerous I would think as wouldn't it just lead to more full speed collisions?

What if instead of a kickoff the "returner" starts with the ball 5 yds deep.

Everyone else starts at like the 30 lined up wit obv 1 free runner. Ref blows whistle and the "return" happens, with returner running or a taking a knee and return team trying to block 1 on 1

or just let the "receiving" team get one "free" play from the 15 yard line. Where ever that play ends is where the team starts their drive from 1st and 10.

Last year, kickers were 84% from FGs that were 40-49 yards away. Bad coaches wouldn't take option 2 every time

Futbol

it seems like every time there is a match being played, there is always one team that is parking the bus with 11 players on their own side just to get a result. Mexico has had this happen to them a lot and I dont like it that a team that should be winning these matches 90% of the time only wins them 30% of the time now because teams are willing to defend the whole match. This is a huge problem in futbol. its boring for the majority of people who watch this sport and it its just pathetic.

so i propose that there be a rule where only 7-8 players can be defending on their side of the field when the other team has the ball. 3 or 4 players have to be on the other side of the field at all times. first time they break the rule is a warning. the second time is a yellow and the third time is a red.

we need to fix this problem because teams like Mexico aren't winning like they should and this is a huge reason why.
