If I understood it correctly, I'd still laugh at it when they finish under .500 for the year. All I'm sayin'

Ugh.

A pox on Ruiz and on Manuel for continuing to run him out there despite the obvious current need of offense.

Moyer looking sick, however. 9k's so far is ridiculous.

I said up to $1000. This means you can choose a number lower than $1000.

lol wh1tbread, why even argue with this guy? just laugh at him, that's what i do. he's comparing the oakland a's to the florida marlins becuase "they both have young players and both got off to a hot start," even though he has probably never seen them play this year and doesn't know three players on the team. the last thing you want to do is confuse him with numbers he obviously won't understand.

so i guess the phills are hit a little rough patch in the road. the offense will obviously turn it around, but the starting pitching is really worrying me. myers is really going to need to turn it around if we want to win the division. a's team scares me becuase they are the typical team we struggle against -- great pitching, bad hitting team. although, moyer did pitch great last night. i don't know what charlie was thinking letting ruiz hit in that siutation. also, i've said it before, i don't think rollins has that same fire he had last year.

I've stopped (for this time anyway). Haha.

Hamels is a stud, Moyer is average but past that your starting pitching has been bad. Not Oliver Perez bad, but pretty close. If Myers doesn't pick up his game the Phillies should definitely make a move or two in the rotation. The Mets and Braves are all banged up and most of the rest of the NL is bad again. Things are shaking up to be as good a year as any for the Phillies to go for it.

I agree with this and have been telling a lot of people that "now is the time." I would say there is an 80% chance of Burrell going somewhere else next year. He's going to want a long term contract and I don't know if he will be able to play left field in 3-4 years, so I think he will wind up going to an AL team, even though I love him as a player and wish he didn't. Also, Rollins is getting older, etc. I would throw some our top prospect(s) to get a big named pitcher. I don't know if we have enough to land someone though. (Please Gillick, do not go after Bronson Aroyo)

My ultimate plan would be to trade Howard for some prospects and convert Pat into a 1B.

Yeah the Phillies farm system isn't particularly strong. Would Victorino be involved in any trade the Phillies make for a starter? You might not be able to land a Sabathia or Sheets. But maybe more like a Randy Wolf or Odalis Perez. They aren't great but they'd be an improvement.

Who knows...maybe someone can convince Maddux to waive his no-trade clause.

Victorino is definitely a possibility. Werth can play CF. Snelling SHOULD play RF, but that isn't going to happen :-(

Greg Maddux? Come on now I want someone that is a top 2 tier pitcher, If it's not a Ben Sheets or Rich Harden, C.C, I don't want to trade anyone for a 4th tier pitcher..

it seemed so impossible to me that howard has 65 rbi while batting 219 so i looked into the numbers:

bases empty- 153 ab, 11 hr 13 bb 58 k for an average of .163 and obp .234
with runners on- 138 ab, 8 hr 54 rbi 27 bb 49k for an average of .283 and obp .396

could be wrong but im seeing some small differences in those numbers

um, we won?

also, wowsers @ the batting order. I know it doesn't that make much difference but it is nice to see someone with a higher OBP leading off.

I want a rotation of Maddux, Moyer, Paul Byrd, Wakefield and Glavine. Make it happen Gillick. I highly dont think Maddux would accept a trade to Philly though (I would be very happy if he did).

I think this is from swinging at way too many offspeed pitches thrown for balls. Pitches are forced to throw him strikes with runners on base. If I was him, I would just look for fastball and not swing at any offspeed pitch until I had two strikes on me.

He pitches to contact. I don't know how well he'd do outside of Petco, considering his home/road splits the last 2 years. Besides, we'd probably have to give up too much for him, considering that he only improves our SP on the margin. I'd take him if SD was dumping salary, but not if we had to give up one of top prospects.

Will he be a type A free agent after this season?

I guess that wouldn't be bad if Philadelphia were a small market team.

I can only post about signing Barry Bonds so many times before it gets old.

Bonds would be great in tiny Citzen's Bank Park. Plus apparently he will work for the league vets minimum, which is definitely a selling point for the cheap-ass Phillies' owners.
