That depends on whether you are sent to a "country club" type facility or a tougher state prison. Folks convicted in federal court for financial crimes - such as Wall Street crooks or corrupt politicians - are more likely to get sent to a country club. Individuals convicted of violent crimes (or crimes against children) in state court are less likely to wind up in a relatively comfortable federal prison. I toured the Limestone Correctional Facility (state prison) which is about ten miles from my doorstep. Believe me, that place is not a country club.
When it comes time for sentencing, I doubt if the judge is going to send Jerry Sandusky to some country club type prison. Presumably Judge Cleland periodically stands for reelection to the bench. If a television crew airs an "investigative report" showing Sandusky playing dominoes and basketball and appearing to have a jolly good time, that won't go over well with the judge's constituents. I suspect the judge will send Sandusky to the most unpleasant prison in Pennsylvania. (Of course, it would be nice if one of his fellow inmates performed a public service and murdered Sandusky, so maybe they'll stick him in solitary confinement 23 hours a day in order to circumvent that outcome.)
