these guys have been working the entire year (and you can extend the timeframe further if you'd like) towards the goals involved with the end of the season. collectively punishing them because the adults in charge of the program are ****ed in the head isn't right.

so then you would support publicly shaming all of the students who "rallied" to support paterno last night?

not at all. in fact that sounds like a solution to me. no spectators, no cameras, just the teams playing football.

they're already almost certainly not going to get to play in a bowl game.

See this is what I'm talking about, right here. The word dangerous was just sincerely used in this context in this thread. Aside from being just plain ridiculous on its own, that is how extraordinarily warped everything is here.

I mean, are they gonna forget to to put their helmets on? Was Joe Paterno also the team doctor?

An interesting article in yahoo sports:

http://www.thepostgame.com/commentar...firing-paterno

The main points:

But one opinion that may surprise is that of Harrisburg civil attorney Ben Andreozzi. He has been advising some of the alleged victims of former Penn State defensive coach Jerry Sandusky, but released a statement [Via Pennlive.com] that is certain to raise a few eyebrows:

"The board of trustees got it wrong. They should have consulted the victims before making a decision on Mr. Paterno...They should have considered these victims watch TV and are aware of the students' reaction and may not want to be associated with the downfall of Mr. Paterno. The school instead elected to do what it felt was in its own best interest at the time. Isn’t that what put the school in this position in the first place?"

"The way the Board reached its decision raises more concerns than the decision itself. There is no indication the Board considered the impact of the decision on the abuse victims. The school let the victims down once, and I think they owed it to the victims to at least gauge how the immediate termination decision would impact them as opposed to Mr. Paterno's resignation at the end of the year. These victims do not live in a bubble. They see the students reaction to the termination, and to think this does not weigh on their minds would be naive."

Pretty much that.

Any thoughts on highly respected coaches (don't have to be good, just squeaky clean) who might donate three weeks to them? It'd never happen of course, but that would probably be the ideal solution. In an empty stadium except for the player's families and with no TV, though.

yeah once the word dangerous is used in the context of a thread about forced rape of a child you know things have gotten real crazy

no, who is that?

I just assumed there must be an underlying reason for your willingness to punish the players and that a lack of awareness of the work they've put in to get to this point was a part of it.

I think you are completely misunderstanding me. I know this is unfair to the students.

But the entire situation is so serious that Penn State needs to consider cancelling the rest of the football season. And while that will be unfair to the students, that's the part that makes life unfair sometimes.

It's such a highly charged situation right now. Can Penn State guarentee the safety of the fans at the game? What about Nebraska? Or when Penn State goes on the road?

I've been in a riot before. It is very dangerous and escalates quickly. The worst thing that can happen is a riot breaks out and people get hurt over a football game.

It sucks, yea. But that's the reality of the situation.

the guy who vacuumed the carpets at Enron headquarters didn't do anything wrong either but his ass still hit the unemployment line.

**** happens and sometimes bystanders get screwed over. Too bad. The players should all be allowed to transfer this summer without having to sit out a year as well.

My entire point is that "punishing the players" is so insignificant in the scope of this scandal as to be irrelevant. I am not out to get the players. I have no personal vendetta against Matt McGloin, believe it or not.

agree with bold 100%

And anyone who wants to stay and not play football should keep their scholarship.

And, really, when the players are out making public statements like, "We're going to play for Joe," (and who knows what else) we might be doing them a favor by not allowing them to make complete fools of themselves in front of a national TV audience, like thousands of other PSU students already have.

thing is, it's not just the players getting ****ed. Kids who paid out $200K for a diploma from there are ****ed right now.

I find it astonishing that they would really care about paterno's welfare. so maybe it is just about money.

When I saw it posted I did contemplate the situation and I do see your point.

I really do think bills had an excellent solution; the games should be played in front of family members in an empty stadium.

So there is a 0% chance that a football game can be held on Saturday without World War III erupting. That's what this thread is telling me.

Of course, me asking this question will immediately label me as a pederast.

Guarantee this would be switched around if they didn't fire him.

No...but how are they going to hold practices, control the depth chart, run plays, control what units go on the field if they fire the entire coaching staff? If you got rid of the coaches and let the captains run the show they will be so disjointed it would be dangerous.

Are you serious? Do you think you're genuinely contributing to the discussion with this post, or are you purposely being reductive of other people's points in order to be as inflammatory as possible?
