Yeah, I was pondering this today. Price is a stud.

So far, best QB I've seen back there since Tui.

Hard to complain about a 25 point win, but our defense looks terrible. I don't know that anyone other than Stanford is actually good enough to exploit it without us still winning the shootout, but with that game in Palo Alto I do not feel good about our hopes of winning the North...

CSC's Power rankings:
1. Stanfraud (3-0)
2. Oregon (3-0)
3. ASU (2-1)
4. USC (3-1)
5. Wash (3-1) - up 1
6. Cal (3-1) - down 1
7. Utah (2-1)
8. Arizona (1-3)
9. UCLA (2-2) - up 1
10. Colorado (1-3) - up 1
11. Oregon St (0-3) - down 2
12. Wazzu (2-1)

Since we seem interested in the bottom... Arizona may be 1-3, but they've played 3 top ten teams and has only lost by an average of about 25. Colorado's putting together some not horrendous losses against some mediocre teams, but UCLA has the Ws (that's right! PLURAL!!!) OSU vs. WSU? Who's to say. Our Cougar backers may be correct that wazzu deserves that coveted #11 spot. But let's let inertia hold sway until the Cougs can go into Boulder and get a nice road win vs. a team that took Cal to overtime.

As for the top, 1,2,3 seem locks. Cal vs. Washington seemed pretty even today and SC beat Utah with a defensive hold on the last play of the game at home. Utah hosts UW, and that'll be another line I'm curious about. My guess would be pick'em since its at SLC.

Oh, and my poor Bruins are going to get slaughtered next week. Pass defense is not UCLA's forte.

I just don't know what argument OSU would possibly have for being above WSU at this point. Home losses to an FCS school and UCLA? And a road 35-0 shutout loss? That's basically as bad of a resume as anyone in the country has right now.

The top of your rankings are of course right at this point. I'd say a more realistic assessment at this point is...
1. Stanford
2. Oregon
3. ASU
4. USC
5. Washington
6a. Cal
6b. Utah (thankfully these two do match up; I can't tell who's better)
8a. Arizona
8b. UCLA
8c. WSU
11. Colorado
12. Oregon State

I wouldn't do all of those tying **** later in the year, but we're just operating on such limited information right now.

Weeeeeeeeee, Go Sun Devils!!!

I like it much better when we win.

Last week after we lost, I didn't read one word about College Football yesterday.

Now after we won, I am already reading about it at 9am on Sunday.

Realistically I'd just divide the pac-12 into

Tier 1: Stanford, Oregon
Tier 2: UW, ASU, USC, Utah
Tier 3: Cal, Arizona, UCLA
Tier 4: Colorado, WSU, OSU

but what fun is that.

I mean, to power rank the conference and then to look to yesterday's win as evidence that the Huskies are four spots higher than Cal in terms of quality...

It is what it is. We're in the early part of the season where things like the AP Poll shouldn't yet exist and are hugely unfair in their very existence. Rankings on message boards are fine just for conversational fodder, but it's clear that we're operating on insanely limited information at this point.

I like this. Although I think Cal & Utah would be 5b and 5c. Yeah, UW won, but how would the game have gone if it were in Cal? Hard to put UW above them yet.

UW's offense is for real, imo. Fun to watch. Price is the best QB we've had since Tui. Their D will hold them back, however, they did gel during the later part of the season last year(which redeemed Holt for me). If that happens soon, look out. As bad as they are, they did hold Cal off. Their D inside the red zone seems passable. Between the 20s, well, still a big ugh!

My delusional comment was more about being too quick to judge and want to fire people too early. Must be the area since Seahawk fans can be just as bad(except 'hawk fans have problems noticing where some prime problems are). But I'm not so sure about overranking themselves. I think they're in line with most other places in that regard. But, historically they have been subject to the east coast bias as have most Pac 10 teams minus USC.

UW's D still was horrible that game. Forced some FGs which saved their ass (plus Cal made some iffy calls near the end). The O is good- the team isn't.

They are however better than CSC's attempts at rankings.

And you're not biased in making this assessment about Husky fans?

What has USC done to be ranked above UW at this point based on resume? Barely hanging on to preserve home wins against Minnesota and Utah? Losing in non-embarrassing fashion to a similarly middle-of-the-pack ASU team?

UW's W vs. Cal despite losing two fumbles is the most impressive achievement by either team thus far.

ASU has the close home win versus a pretty good Missouri team, but their offense also looked awful in the road loss to a mediocre Illinois squad.

Therefore IMO, reasonable arguments can be made for ranking UW/ASU/USC as #3-5, or ASU/UW/USC, or ASU/USC/UW.

Ultimately we don't have many data points yet and the teams will sort themselves out eventually but ranking UW ahead of ASU and USC at this point is not an absurd homer assessment.

I would have a hard time putting UW above USC at this point. Mostly because I think USC matches up with them pretty well. Put at QB as good as Barkley on Cal and UW likely loses that game.

Also, does CSC not noticed that actually WSU has two wins where they utterly crushed the other team?

UCLA beat a terrible OSU team by 8. They beat San Jose State by 10. They got rolled by Texas (who doesn't look exactly awesome) and lost to a Houston team that doesn't look great.

WSU murdered two crap teams (which might not mean much, but it means more than a 10 point win over SJS), and lost to a SDSU team that might actually be decent. (and that game was closer than the final score)

I can't see any argument looking at this year that places UCLA over WSU. Obviously putting them under OSU is just stupid trolling. (or not, 'cause CSC is pretty dumb).

It's difficult to tell whether the chicken or egg came first here, honestly. I might be biased. Or maybe this turnoff was one of the things that biased me.

While USC's close win over Minnesota looks more and more like a black eye than an accomplishment every week, I think you underestimate Utah. To me, beating Utah > beating Cal.

But anyway, we're in agreement about the lack of data points. I'm not sure anyone could argue that we know enough yet.

I agree on all counts. UA had numerous dropped passes/bad throws/dumb ass penalties that if swung the other way would have definitely changed the momentum of the game.

Fair enough.

My argument for putting UW 3rd or 4th basically boils down to their offense under Keith Price steadily improving every week. But that could be illusory or random, who knows. Also I would argue that bad luck and bad calls took them out of the Nebraska game, but even if those events don't happen they probably couldn't stop Nebraska.

We will see, UW is +7 in Salt Lake this week.

Also, man does the Pac 12 suck this year.

I mean, even in a down year for the Pac, I think our conference beats the ACC with ease. I'm buying both Stanford and Oregon over anyone they have.
