The problem is that the personality traits that lead to such thinking (questioning everything, not trusting authority, disregarding social norms) sometimes gets applied to sensitive topics, thus the same freedom that allows people to operate in new and creative ways also allows them to remove social filters without repercussion.

It's the idea that 'nothing is sacred' that drives this place, both positively and negatively. And I don't think that problem will ever be solved.

If you have a discussion forum that would be willing to discuss this matter beyond:

- 'this is horrible'
- 'RIP'
- 'Hope the survivors get well soon'
- *Remembrance of the player's careers*

then you're going to have some version of that thread. I'm not surprised at all, and I'd merely note that there are some bad posts on either side of the argument.

My opinion of those threads is that they're great to have. It shows you who the giant mouthbreathing ******s are. If you have the compulsion to participate in a thread like that or a 9/11 thread, you are probably an idiot to begin with.
