Yeah, this is truly awful.

I can just imagine the millions and millions of Americans who avoided twitter or simply watch only in prime-time (lol-old people for example) who mostly had no idea who the winner was...just as NBC wants it....and then everyone going, "What?!?!"

Really feel bad for the viewers in this spot even more than typical. Too many commercials and annoying nonstop interviews with the parents, etc and generally silly coverage are one thing. But telling your audience "hey, here who is going to win the event that we haven't shown yet...have a nice day" is just terrible.

No excuse. NBC knows they are showing on tape-delay. They know they are going to promote the next Today show. They are going way out of their way to try to make it look like live coverage. Mislabeled and mistimed promo for the winner is a ludicrous accident.

Clicked on the link today that said "Watch this final live". Instead, it was another final that I hadn't yet watched. Thanks

Lol USA. No wonder Michael Johnson commentates for the bbc where he looks happy when answering general sport related questions in the studio, looks happy watching the Brits fail to win in various sports and looks happy having a prime seat in Olympic stadium!

The bbc has every sport live and then a highlights show in the evening. No adverts either!

I'm not overjoyed with the coverage. But there are like 7 channels of this stuff now plus the internet and smart-phone app stuff as well (kind of shaky about working properly...but still).

In 1988, the gold medal soccer match between USSR and Brazil that went to overtime was cut so that some of the table tennis could be shown. "Tie game, 10 minutes left, what a great match and Olympic drama at its finest! Now back to ping-pong!!"

Now I can watch literally every mens and womens hoops and soccer match including all of those not involving the U.S. I can watch any of them on-demand as well on internet replay if I'm that into it. Not just PART of the gold medal soccer match which was all the coverage they gave to the sport for many Olympics. etc etc.

I truly don't understand the complaining about the tape-delayed stuff...since most people can watch it live if they are that interested in it. Back when the tape-delayed stuff was the ONLY option and it was all on one freaking channel THEN it was something to whine about.

The only major thing to complain about here is NBC spoiling their own event for their viewers who had purposefully avoided learning who had won.

Hm? No. How would people get spoiled in that case? IIRC, the US-USSR hockey game, one of the most famous moments in Olympic history, was tape delayed. Still, no one knew the result, because that's not how the world worked. Now if you can't watch an event live and would like to keep the result from yourself, you also have to avoid sports channels, sports Internet sites, and social media.

Bob,

They black out the highest interest sports when all they have to do is show them live online for those who want and again on tape delay in a highlight show format during primetime. It works great for the BBC. Their whole approach is absurd.

Exactly what my wife did. She didn't want to be spoiled and was looking forward to the 400 IM men's finals. I had watched it online in the morning, but didn't tell her the results. So she turns on the TV about 5 minutes before the broadcast starts. The local news says the results. So now she doesn't even want to watch the Olympics anymore.

But I also think that we (sports junkies who care enough about sports to write about it on the Internet) are the exception and most people (females in particular) are like my wife. The only event she's even watched so far is women's gymnastics.

This NBC Stream is garbage.

I just watched two swimming finals, both times it froze just short of the finish and then restarted after the race was over.

The second one came back just in time for the announcer to call it one of the iconic moments in Olympic swimming history. Great job NBC. The commercials that immediately followed each race played just perfectly obviously.

I assume that's a bandwidth issue. It never fails during table tennis or other obscure sports, but always is jerky during swimming. Try reducing the resolution to 240p and see if that helps.

I also don't think this is NBC's fault, as youtube is handling the streaming.

It is NBC's fault. If they were showing this stuff live on TV we wouldn't have to worry about a stream freezing.

I don't give a **** if the actual fault lies with NBC or Youtube. That is completely irrelevant. They chose their infrastructure partners, and they chose poorly.

I've got more than enough bandwidth on my end., they've just done a ****ty job on their end.

Try 240p... are you ****ing kidding me? I might as well just pay a courtroom sketch artist to send me their renderings of the game by snail mail.

Come home, turn on NBC, watch the live USA/ESP beach volleyball (great match btw), leave room for 3 minutes. Walk back in, NBC local news is on, they immediately spoil every major result they are going to show on primetime (Phelps, gymnastics, etc). FU NBC

Yeah, my local news says, "Results alert" or something similar before the reveal the big events. But that's not helpful if you tune to NBC right after they say that or you walk in from another room. If they really plan on tape delaying and acting as if events didn't happen, they have to avoid giving spoilers all day long. If you want to be spoiled, you can go to ESPN. If you want to avoid spoilers, it should be safe to go to NBC.
