God Bela crushed the 2008 olympics. He should have given a spot on the NBC Football Night in America. His reaction during the Nastia All-Around was GOAT.

"yes....Yes....Yes...YES....YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SSSSS"

Of all the dumb reality shows out there, why there isn't one of him training gymnasts I haven't figured out.

I'd be tempted to watch a few minutes of soccer if he commentated. Not the whole match, but a few minutes.

is this about gymnastics?

they can only appeal the difficulty score. the gymnast and coach know in advance what the difficulty score will (should) be depending on what routine they plan to do. note that difficulty score awarded is not affected by how good or bad the gymnast performs.

if you go out and perform your 6.7 difficulty routine but the judges only give credit for a 6.6 then it's an easy decision to PROTEST

especially if you are a whiny north american

I'd be irate if a medal was swiped from me by an inquiry. Sports with judges aren't sports.
If you guys are talking about the Raisman beam, it was explained in the live stream, not sure if NBC has the same commentary on tape delay. They said the difficulty score/multiplier is set when she makes up the routine. So that score is guaranteed as long as she tries every single maneuver she planned. So people who know her, might actually know her difficulty score so say it has always been a 6 and they gave her a 5.9 or whatever then they would notice.

Yeah, I get it. I knew it was about the starting score, but for some reason I thought if you miss elements (commentators always talking about losing the connection between skills) the difficulty level comes down. Didn't realize it was set.

Look Canada, maybe you can't compete with US money when it comes to bribing soccer refs, but surely you can match Azerbaijan in boxing

When I said "set" I'm not 100% sure but I think it's only set if she completes the maneuvers, doesn't have to do it cleanly just complete it. There was a girl in the all around who didn't finish a spin only got 3/4 through it and the announcer said "she doesn't get credit for it at all, they won't count it as part of her routine" so if the way the commentators explained it, that the difficulty is made up by the parts then yes it can go down (add up actually) if one of the maneuvers wasn't done. It can be done messy but it has to be done. The messy part gets taken out of the other score.

Edit: I think this explains it better

Quote:
-The difficulty (“D”) score starts at 0.0 and increases with every difficult skill performed.

-The execution (“E”) score begins at a 10.0, and the judges deduct for errors in performance such as a fall off the beam or a step on the landing of a dismount.
The crowd/coaches knew she didn't forget anything and that is why they reacted.

It was indeed, too bad Russians lost though. Gamova would probably be a beast shotblocking and rebounding in the WNBA.
