Ya, some Australian, he also qualified for the finals due to another crash in the semis. He got eliminated in the quarters this year and wasn't close. Really the hottest anyone has run in an Olympic event.

The "Canada" toques are much much cooler than the ones they wear at the medal ceremonies

btw, I've been saying for quite awhile that Sweden is Canada's biggest rival in these Olympics for hockey and not Russia. Sweden is a very good team and Canada will have there hands full in the game, but still should win more often that not.

saw that Korean DQ and it was awful. I don't see how you can disqualify them for that. It should be appealed and they should win.

edit: reminds me of the race where the Korean won gold and they dq'd him 'cause he passed Ohno who was the favourite and the judges decided that the only way he could lose is if he got fouled. The Korean then threw the flag he was waving on the ice when he found out.
That being said I have heard a lot about the Koreans cheating a ton in short track and being hated by every other team for never giving way.

don't remember the name but wasn't there a guy that won a gold from last place from having the rest crash, and iirc he had the same thing happen in the semis

You are thinking of Steven Bradbury.

Anyway, I just caught the German bobsled crash. I didn't even see the woman in back eject until the replay. Can someone tell us whether bailing is actually the safer move there, or was the ejection accidental?

The commentator said the brake man has the option to eject, and it can be more dangerous depending where on the track you are, but you can get serious friction burns in the sled

That's exactly what I just said. Normally there are 4 in the final, but 1 got advanced 'cause he was fouled and crashed, and Bradbury who finished 2nd as a result made it to the final and then that video happened.

If you eject you don't get a time tho. The Canadians in 2man flipped in run 2 and thus fell out of medal contention by losing 3 seconds, but still got a time.

I feel bad for the Koreans, what that girl did was wrong but it wasn't worth a DQ imo. Oh well.

Crazy day at the office so I'm going through the CTV website getting caught up on today's events.

Great day for Canada but the highlight for me, even above the hockey game, was Clara Hughes' bronze. Easily one of Canada's all time greatest athletes and a satisfying end to illustrious athletic career.

Serious question, why don't they do speed skating one at a time or in smaller groups than 4, crashes are way too frequent and DQ's so subjective, seems like a terrible way to have a sport.

why was roller derby popular?
Why is NASCAR popular?
Short track is great in groups of 4. Although the ladies 1500m final was awesome with 8 skaters in it due to advancements and crashes in both semi finals

anyone know the history of why Quebec is our powerhouse for short track and the prairies produce long track? Just Quebecois being their crazy selves?

Just watched that womens relay race. LOL @ that disqualification. And honestly, EVEN if that was a DQ, just give China the gold and Korea the silver. The other 2 were so far behind that they weren't even in contention.

I don't watch enough short track to know what qualifies as a DSQ, but the Koreans have shown a history of really walking a thin line with not allowing passes, very risky passes etc.

With Canada so far behind, the DSQ just illustrates how dumb a move it was to attempt such a risky pass that risks both getting taken out and/or getting DSQ'd.

I think the absolute hatred the speed skating teams of the two have for each other have something to do with it.
