im thinking about buying a videocamera and taping myself playing some of the classics 1st time through with commentary. is this an idiotic idea..would anyone watch?

so it's basically camtasia...I had a friend put a ROM thing on my computer right before it died...I'd be able to put an emulator on/get a gaming controller and have comparable play to how it's supposed to be? I do not know how to do any of this (including getting my voice on, making youtube channel etc), but this would give me something great to do on my days off from grinding/studying.

I'm thinking it would be somewhat amusing watching me ****up in all of the tough classic games...maybe include some games I'm actually good at too?

games I'd be interested in playing that I haven't beaten (guessing they don't support gamecube graphics and up):

Super Metroid
LttP (got pretty far but didn't finish)
Chrono trigger
Any of the mega mans (so hard)
Majora's mask (, got stuck in snow temple)
Metroid Prime
Banjo-kazooie (obv didn't finish)

Not sure why anyone would want to watch someone play an RPG, but I'd probably play Chrono Trigger/Earthbound/and a FF game if it doesn't take 40 hours to beat.

Yeah, with an emulator + a USB controller (360 pads work well for most classic games, or I'm sure you could find an SNES pad replica), you'd be getting pretty much the same experience as playing on a console.

I know Hypercam and Fraps are two common recording methods used... not sure about all the steps you'd need to take, but playing games with commentary is now commonly referred to as a "Let's Play". Using that term, I'm pretty sure you can google some decent recording instructions/tips.

Oh, and speaking of playing games with commentary:

The Awesome Games Done Quick Marathon is starting today at 3 PM Eastern. It's a charity gaming marathon put on by Speed Demos Archive in which a bunch of speedrunners play through games for the next 5-6 days. Will probably feature a bunch of undrafteds, but it's pretty solid entertainment for a couple hours to watch them demolish some games.

Last year they raised something like $50k for cancer research. One of them was a 2p2er, but I dunno if he'll be there this year.

4 also has a glitch that could screw you out of 100% completion. (If you don't do Driving Mission 1 before all other DMs, you'll never get credit for it.)

God of War was pretty polished but I did kind of grind my way through it not really having that much fun, except for during the excellent boss battles. I wonder If I lost out by selecting easy difficulty after failing to brake that Medusa's neck for the umpteenth time.

Max Payne 2 is Resident Evil 4 quality good. It was the best pure action game ever when it was first released. It's Majoras Mask quality.
