I personally can't stand figure skating.

I wanted to make this thread so you can see her before and after pictures. If you think meth will keep you awake and help your poker game, look at the long term consequences.

Ha, Jesus Christ. I was just talking about this scourge with a friend an hour or two ago. A long time friend of his who was loaded and had a family started doing meth with some strippers he rented a place to up in Seattle. Now he's homeless. Obviously an extreme case but I'll never understand the mentality of people who snort what amounts to Drano and a bunch of other **** in order to get high. In their defense I don't think they get it either.

Barely remember this particular chick though. It's very possible she started with uppers during her career in order to stay skinny.

Oh yeah, from an addict's cost/benefit analysis I don't doubt that meth starts to look like a better "value", but goddamn, what a mess. And unlike some other drugs I imagine that the number of dealers who are also users is pretty much 100%.

Well my fascination with the subject of addiction is pretty much the reason that Infinite Jest is my favorite book ever (addiction really is the core subject, however it's somewhat obscured with all the very bizarre subplots).

I don't really plan on ever doing blow because my life won't be less complete without it. It could get really messed up though with it, and I know a couple of friends who like to get sniffy after they get a couple of drinks in them. Of course, for the (vast) majority this doesn't lead to some slippery slope meth habit, but I don't really feel like it's a chance I need to take.

yeah.. all the dessert areas in So Cal are meth hot spots. My sis used to tell me about driving 30 min east of SD to see dudes w/ tin foil hats riding around on their bikes

I don't know what there is to disagree about. IJ was about addiction and addressed it from both rich kids and derelicts and the whole Canadian wheelchair assassins and Rod the God and Year of the Whopper and all that was just to make it all more readable.

Don Gately is possibly the most likable character ever written though.

That doesn't seem very possible to me, but he's definitely the most likable character in that book. The Gately sections were what gave me a better impression of IJ than things like Underworld or most Pynchon.

I might have to bite the bullet after I finish up the books I'm working on and join the cool kids in rereading IJ this summer.

I've never done drugs in my life but for some reason I'm really fascinated with methheads and reading about stories like these and seeing the before and after pics.
