I thought he was going to run out the clock behind the net, and then it turns out that's what he should have done. It's like everybody had skated themselves in circles to exhaustion.

Deal confirmed bad

Reading through that I discovered that the Sens also threw in a 2nd rounder for good measure (ended up being the 33rd overall in 2018). The player picked with that?

Spoiler:
Albert Einstein

Spoiler:
actually it's Jonathan Berggren who was picked by Detroit and scored a pretty good 21-43-64 in 70 AHL games last year. Rangers traded the pick for Brendan Smith, so it wasn't all great for them

So far, Kings are who I thought they are. Not shocked if both LAK and VGK miss the playoffs.

This last Canucks PP, the same thing, the Oilers almost had 3 breakaways.

I love how the Canucks get all their ducks in a row, they can shoot through a maze of bodies.

Another thing not to do, don't get into possession trouble while the power-play is ending. You need separation or you need to send the defencemen out of the zone.

Don't take penalties when you play Edmonton.

6-0 would be a comfortable lead against Edmonton.

Liked what I saw out of VGK. I think barring a lot of injuries they make the playoffs and possibly become a contender, we will have to see how goaltending is. Need to put Kessel on top PP unit immediately though.

cbj lose 4-1 and pat lane out 3-4 weeks with an elbow injury, good start to the season

And now the Calgary game, same things on the PP again, the 4th forward is not playing any defence, Calgary's Andersson gets out of the box just as Colorado loses possession.

Those two things have made up about a quarter of all the scoring I've seen early this season.

How much scoring have you seen though? Not sure the exact numbers but I'd guess the difference is pretty substantial over the course of a season in chances for vs against with an offensive 4th forward on the PP.

yeah, but it seems like sh goals are also once again skyrocketing, for the reasons he mentions
(95% of forwards have literally no clue how to defend, where to be, etc)

power kills confirmed big time back

Thought the Bruins were playing today stupid nhl app

Didn't know/notice that about shorties but it feels like PPs are also clicking at a way higher rate than a decade ago. IIRC anything at 20% or higher was pretty elite back then and now that's, like, ok.

ok did a little research and the league leaders are still only scoring 4-5 shgs per season

thought i was watching a game last season and they said someone scored 10-15, but that was probably a team thing

Only about 12 goals, and like I said, I've only watched a few games.

Tonight I missed the first couple of periods, now I'm watching and once again we have Panarin coming out of the penalty box. The Jets shot the puck with 1 second left in the penalty. It couldn't have been a worse time to lose possession.

In this case, Pionk, a defenceman, is half-way up the wall and in a good position to get a rebound. The shot comes from the other defenceman, Schmidt. Schmidt gets to walk it in and there are a lot Ranger bodies, it's a good shot to take, there's a Jet forward at the side for a rebound. The puck doesn't get through and Zibinejad corrals the puck, seems to be very aware of the penalty ending and sends it up to Panarin. Hurray for Hellebyuck, he's looked awfully good in the preseason.

If Pionk knew the clock was ticking, would he have been back on the blueline? Would that have helped? I think maybe Schmidt shouldn't have shot that puck. I don't think you are more likely to score there than to have that breakaway come back on you.

I think if you are going to shoot, you need to shoot from the sides, where the puck ends up in the corner or coming around the boards if it isn't on net.

How likely are you to keep possession there if you don't shoot? Probably pretty good if Pionk was on the blueline.

How long is that danger period? 5 seconds before the PP ends until about 10 seconds after the PP ends? That's an eternity.

If you are the PK team, can you force this to happen?

It's 20 seconds into this recap video:
