Rantanen is going to the Hurricanes. Also Taylor Hall in a 3 team trade according to reports.

Big trade. Think Avs may have more moves in them.

yeah was trying to understand their side of it because it doesn't make sense in a vacuum unless i am severely mistaken and necas is the superior player

but rantanen plus a spare taylor hall at half salary feel like they are getting a lot more

If nothing else, they were losing Rantanen in the off season.

Now they at least get Necas who has another year at 6.5 + Drury + picks. Necas is really good.

Rantanen is better of course, but it's a good deal to recoup something for someone who they weren't going to be able to re-sign.

And they have a bit of extra cap space now to make another move which could get them back to somewhat even footing on the Rantanen loss.

The Avs fan in my sim league likes the trade. After watching most of the games he thinks Rantanen is lazy and paying him 14 mil would slam the Avs window shut.

necas for rantanen is actually kind of a mid-off at this point. rantanen has been very mediocre this season (in a contract year? lol). he actually hasn't been great since 2021-22 when he was the avs best player by xg. kind of forgot that he's already 28 years old ... yeah that's not a guy i'd want to invest $90m/7 in or whatever

and necas is obv a meh fish on a heater, no one here seems confused about that. same guy as usual this year, except he's shooting 2+ points over his career average, i guess that should continue when playing with mack/makar. and yeah it's about the cost control for next season

Necas -3 today. What a terrible trade for the Avs.

yeah he needs 20 more to break the record, only 33 games left. probably early next season, but there's a chance if he stays healthy and heated

Since Leafs are not doing anything, good night to work on sports cards, lol

I still can't find anything on Quinn Hughes's Auto card and Tiger Woods' insert card. I probably should get both graded if it was not so expensive.

I'm sure a package of Zadorov and Lindholm would work, I hear the Canucks were pretty good with those two

I could see the Bruins picking up Brandon Saad and waiving him again before the deadline

I sure would like to know why these two guys hate each other so much ?

Fleury in Montreal great to see such a likeable person

Lol flyers.

Kuzmenko and Pelts will do fine in Philly. But why trade for guys that have been healthy scratched and another on waivers for 2 former 1st round picks who have been regular NHLers in their mid 20's. Conroy is a great GM.

I think Petey is soft and JT calls him out. Petey doesn't like it so he cries. Basically JT is a bully. And it's boiled over. That's the general take.

But on top of that I think there's another issue, possibly separate from it, or maybe how Petey fights back. Earlier in the year JT took time off for personal reasons. His wife deleted insta. Wasn't clear what issue was, but possible marital issues.

So maybe when JT is a bully, Petey fights back with stuff about his marriage.

It's an interesting deal, I like it better for Calgary for now but seems Philly is kinda hedging against Farabee's 5 million being major sunk cost for another three years. If he can be an OK middle six ish guy he won't be which makes it a reasonable shot from Calgary's POV and it's not just for this season, but they're in an awkward spot and figure to hand MTL their own ~13th overall pick rather than Florida's ~25th

Saad going to Vegas!

Here we go guys! Salary cap numbers released.

2025-26
Upper Limit: $95.5 Million
Lower Limit: $70.6 Million

2026-27
Upper Limit: $104 Million
Lower Limit: $76.9 Million

2027-28
Upper Limit: $113.5 Million
Lower Limit: $83.9 Million

The NHL and NHLPA note that the numbers in 2027 and 2028 are projections and can be revised.

The NHL's current collective bargaining agreement is set to expire at the end of the 2025-26 season, but the fact that the NHL and NHLPA have agreed on numbers beyond that is a great sign for labor negotiations.

beyond livid that the washington capitals bought cap friendly and made it private

also, lololololol that would be some good proprietary data - makes me really wonder just how terrible the analytics teams of front offices must be if a team decided to buy cap friendly just so other teams couldn't look at it

5 million for a 25 year old that's been a top 6 forward isn't sunk cost. It's not 2018, the cap is going up and the Flames have a ton of space. Conroy has also said he isn't looking to stock pile draft picks, they have their prospects and tons of cap room to add in FA if they want.
