Ranking my preference of winners now as

Oilers
Stars
Rangers
Panthers

Be pretty cool to see the Oil win it all now.

what's the worst Finals matchup for ratings? Should probably bet on that.

Fla - Stars I think

Edit:
How Nhl would it be if it were Rangers/Stars, and the Knicks hadn't lost, and Nba Finals was Knicks/Mavs. An all NYC/Dallas finals.

yeah FLA-Stars the worst

Oilers-Rangers the best

Rangers Oilers is also easily the best for ratings.

I'm here for Oilers-Florida with Loser Tkachuk getting bounced from the playoffs again by the Oilers as he ducks fighting anyone in his weight class.

If you're worried about ratings, maybe have a Canadian hockey team win a Cup every decade or so instead of going 30 years without one. 🤔

hypothetical q:

It’s Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals in overtime. Team A clears the puck towards Team B’s goal. Team B’s goalie goes to get the puck and, while under no defensive pressure, casually and purposefully turns around and shoots the puck into his own goal giving Team A the championship. How does the NHL handle it?

i would like to see it

Hey guys,

Been a few years since I've been around but thought I'd share a little story that hopefully people will appreciate here.

As my name would suggest, I am a die-hard Red Wings fan and have been for a very long time. Thanks to the Wings finally being relevant after close to a decade of mediocrity, I was really into hockey this year. I was fortunate enough to go to a couple of games in Alberta against my Red Wings. The game between Edmonton and Detroit ended up 8-2 and Connor McDavid had 6 assists and reminded me how ****ing good that guy is at hockey.

Fortunately, I've done quite well this year financially and decided that I wanted to watch McDavid live again and went online and bought 2 tickets to the game against the Oilers and Canucks. I bought the tickets for myself and a female friend who is a diehard Oilers fan.

Prior to meeting me in Edmonton, my friend informed me that she didn't have her ID so having to get drinks was potentially an issue. Luckily my grey hair was enough of an ID I guess that it was never an issue.

We walked to the arena around 5pm for the 6pm game time and downtown Edmonton had the ice district bumping with a lot of fans hanging out and cars honking their horns with Oilers flags flying. Fast-forwarding to the start of the game and wow, playoff hockey is one of my favorite things in life. Rogers place is a beautiful arena and the staff and rink do a great job on setting the tone for the game with some good pre-game jumbotron entertainment. The atmosphere was insane.

Dylan Holloway scored one of the nicest goals that I've seen in a while by someone not named McDavid. The game was Oiler domination and the city was ready to party on Saturday night after an Oilers win.

We decide to head over to Greta bar where my friend knows a dude who's already in. When we show up, the line is over 100 people long and immediately I think to myself that I'm way too old to be standing in line so I tell my friend that I'm going to go distract security so that she can hop the outside railing to get in. She asks me, "Well what about you?" I tell her that it's her night to party since she's the true Oilers fan and I'll figure out something. I then go over to security and ask them a few questions while I watch my friend hop the fence. Part 1 of the mission complete. Part 2 would be to figure out a way for myself to get in. I head over to the door and talk to security and ask about bar courtesy or slipping him some cash to get in. That was a no-go so I go back into the line to look for vulnerabilities to sneak in. I text my friend to distract security while I hop the fence when about 6 20 year old kids cut the line in front of me. A fairly heated argument between 2 girls behind me who are closer to my age and that group ensue when all of a sudden a fight breaks out and my moment arrives where I can hop the railing and get in. I tell the 6 people that cut in front of me that karma's a bitch and go find my friend at the bar.

After finding my friend, I head to the bar and see a dude in a leather jacket that looks like Pasha from Spittin' Chiclets. As I'm walking to the bar, I say to him, "Yo dude, you look like Pasha from Spittin' Chiclets." He immediately smiles and says, "Ya, that's me." I was like, wtf are you doing here? He says, "Why not?" I say that I'm out of town as well and tell him that I'm a fan of the show and congratulate him on the success that they've had and ask him if I can buy him a drink. We have a minor debate and eventually settle on him buying while I get 2 double jacks and coke. After I get my drink he goes, "Wtf dude, you got 2 after someone offered you a free drink?" I said, "Hey man, this is why I offered to buy because I already ordered my drinks." The dude was surrounded by other people taking selfies all night long but my short encounter with him he seemed like a nice guy.

After partying the night away and getting too drunk, all I remember was waking up in my hotel room with a half naked girl in my bed with no recollection of how I got there. I then noticed my phone was smashed and I got an alert to see some recent photos and when I checked them, I'll show you what I saw...

Apparently we spent a couple hours walking around trying to find my hotel and my phone may have taken a fall as captured by the angles on the Alberta Legislative building picture.

quick ecf preview before it starts tomorrow, wanted to get a lil taste of how these teams got here because i haven't watched them too much or too closely

(score & venue adjusted 5v5 xg)

florida panthers

verhaeghe 59%, barkov 58%, reinhart 56%
lundell 53%, tkachuk 53%, tarasenko 47%
luostarinen 47%, bennett 46%, cousins 46%
stenlund 41%, rodrigues 40%, okposo 39%

ekman-larsson 56%, forsling 52%
montour 51%, kulikov 49%
ekblad 47%, mikkola 46%

solid looking team. top-heavy with the forwards, can mix and match their big-5 to create two good lines, plus tarasenko who's always been a good finisher. decent 3rd line, no 4th line. if lomberg is healthy i might try him out over anyone on the 4th line due to his 61% xg over 12 minutes, because those other guys blow. defense looks solid too, with no glaring weakness. bobrovsky with his .902 sv% is a major question mark, he hasn't really been good in the playoffs since 2018 lol

new york rangers

kakko 61%, lafreniere 54%, cuylle 53%
kreider 51%, panarin 48%, zibanejad 48%
wennberg 48%, trochek 47%, roslovic 45%
vesey 41%, rempe 40%, goodrow 40%

fox 51%, miller 50%
gustafsson 48%, trouba 48%
schneider 47%, lindgren 39%

i thought the panthers' numbers were meh until i saw the rangers lol. guess they're happy that they stuck it out with kakko & laf, finally coming into their own. overall not too dissimilar to florida, but a little weaker. 4th line also sucks, defense is worse because they only have 5 who can play. if they get an injury back there look out, woof. will likely go as far as shesterkin can carry them, which might be all the way. also whats a "will cuylle"? 1 point in 10 games but he's crushing the xg

smart money prob on the rag$ in 6 or 7, because home ice and the massive advantage in net. but florida's top 2 lines are scary. should be fun

I know Trouba is excellent. He seems to take a lot of ****, but he is a very good defenceman.

I don't have much hope for Edmonton. Colorado is closer to the team that Edmonton wants to be than Edmonton is, and they couldn't beat Dallas. Colorado probably shouldn't have beaten Winnipeg, but they exposed one of the Jets' Achilles heals (one which Dallas doesn't suffer from).

I don't think Dallas is as good as they were last year. Last year I saw them several times, against several teams, take the puck up the boards by winning more than half the 50/50 battles and score. That was something that would take several minutes. They don't, probably can't, do that now.

I don't know how good Florida is. Why Maurice likes Kolikov is beyond me. They are resilient.

I know NYR is built right, excellent goalies and great defencemen. Sad about Wheeler, probably the moment he could have had his last gasp. I don't think Wheeler or Roslovic were in Maurice's good books.

I'm expecting Dallas, New York. I'll be floored if Edmonton gets through, unless the refs hand out the Gretzky/Kurri treatment.

NYR/Florida, I really think NYR is exactly in the sweet spot, talent and age wise, but I just don't know how good Florida is. We'll see tonight, maybe, unless they have an off game. And can you figure out if it's an off game? I bet it goes 7.

Three of the four teams can goalie you, so that's a wild-card.

market really seems to like florida. they did have a tougher road playing tbl and the bumz ... possible they dominate at 5v5. basically their entire team was 50%+ xg during the season. still think it'll be a long series though, but the rangers will probably need powerplays to win

Bobrovsky was amazing in the playoffs last year, he was really good in a couple of the Bruins games as well.

I can’t believe the Dallas Edmonton number is so low, feels like Dallas should beat them in 6 max

he had a .915 sv% last year, which is average. he's at .902 this year, which is bad

i made a mistake earlier, he was last good in the 2019 playoffs and the 2017-18 season. basically been bad since he left columbus (.907 sv%, was .921 with cbj), good lord that contract the panthers gave him was horrible
