Habs got rid of Hoffman. 4.5 million. and ok take back Petry (and get a 2nd round pick, lose Rem Pitlick). 35. 2 years take that on, but Pittsburg eating 25% of salary and paid the bonus...only 2.4 million against the cap both years. They can trade him. And hey he was really good with habs. I will be honest, Hoffman was really a buzz kill of a player. Not saying he can't be some 3rd liner, 2nd PP guy if motivated on a good team...but he did not fit with the habs sort of young scrappy building a culture type thing. He really was awful on both ends the whole time with habs.

Hoffman can still shoot the puck though.

Amazing deal for the Pens. Great job by Dubas this off-season. Basically got rid of all of Hextalls acquisitions except for Carter and Rakell.

It does make me more excited for the Pens season, however, still don’t see them as cup contenders.

east is pretty open. the "upstart" teams like the sabres and sens are not going to be what the nerds want or think. pens have equity.

I still don’t believe the Sens are a playoff team yet, but maybe, Buffalo might also not be a playoff team. Interested in Buffalo/Sens/Wings/Pens as they seem like teams who didn’t make the playoffs last year who have a decent chance to make it this year.

wangz still prob suck, as only like half the stuff they do is any good. plus almost no elite talent. not a great recipe for success

San Jose fans seemed passionate. Big crowd. This is rough for them. Got just one 1st which will be low since it's 2024 Pittsburg and 3 boring vets including Hoffman who wow glad he is gone. No top prospect included. Did get Will Smith in the draft. They got a couple of other dudes. Rebuilds can be fun, but...so is being good at hockey.

The east is pretty wide open. Only teams that for sure miss the playoffs are Montreal, Philly and probably NYI. Columbus if healthy could surprise people imo.

Took me 2 days to understand that deal, lol. So if I can recap:

1) Sharks got nothing really, but did manage to get out from under that deal

2) Pens got EK for basically nothing (and sent out all their trash), but the older than dirt team found a way to get older. Still looking forward to that PP.

3) Habs will....flip Petry once they retain again?

4) lol Mike Hoffman

I believe the Canadiens will trade Jeff Petry. Not necessarily immediately, but likely before the season starts. Pittsburgh has already paid Petry's $3M signing bonus for this season and MTL can retain 50% trading him out, making him $2.34M against the cap this season and next.

I see...so if they trade him, it might be 2.34 mil against the cap. Keeping him it's higher, like over 4mil. Petry has 2yr. Hoffman 1yr left. Needed to get rid of Pitlick too. The big thing is habs got rid of Druin and Hoffman who have talent but not able to produce and not two guys you want eating up ice time with young guys needing development, and also not playing hard every night...rich veterans getting by...just don't want them around.

mispronounces half the names, but accurate summary of the habs part of the deal, imo...

They got younger! Petry 35, Rutta 33, Granlund and DeSmith 31 go out. Karlsson 33 and Pitlick 26 come back.

Malkin steps up when Crosby is out and the main reason is he gets to play with Letang. Now Crosby AND Malkin will have a 1RD to play with.
