Heh. My cousin is from San Jose, but picked up being a hockey fan when she went to school at UBC. She usually cheers for both teams when they're not playing each other. I'll have to ask her where her allegiance lies in this next one.

Chokez fans should be glad that my girlfriend dragged me to some busker fest here in town tonight. Had I been at home, I might have been tempted to turn on the game and cheer for the Chokez, which would have inevitably led to yet another tragic defeat of the team I favor in the vast majority of hockey games I watch.

also tatar played a few games with the team too, he might become a scorer, but it's rather unlikely too, since the wings bring their prospects along soooo slow, it's rather unlikely you will see any of them in the near future, besides kindl on D probably getting more ice time with rafa/lidstrom leaving

forgot about nyquist, he seems to have a scoring touch, but is probably years away from the nhl and still very yo0ung

Initial non morning after thoughts:

Great series all around, SJ outplayed Detroit for the majority of the game tonight. Although I'm super disappointed and pissed off, I can't say they are undeserving.

Very disappointed that Bert and Cleary were out for most of the game tonight. That's such a huge blow to our special teams and our 5-on-5 play.

Pavel Datsyuk is the best player in the world. I don't give a **** how fast Ovie can skate, how hard he can shoot, or how much Sidney Crosby is loved in Canada. No player brings the skillset and will to the game that Datsyuk does. He makes other players around him play in slow motion, and I don't see anybody else in the league that does that.

I really really can't stand Joe Thornton. All of the hate that non-Wings fans have towards Holmstrom and Franzen, I now totally get. I have that same level of hate towards Thornton. It's not enough that he dives constantly. It's not enough that he keeps on bitching to refs. But I forget when the play actually happened, I think early in the 3rd period. Niemi freezes the puck, Wings player goes 1 on 3 towards the net and stops. 2 guys tie him up. Joe comes in about 2 seconds later and gives him 2 solid slashes while the Wings player is on the ice in a defenseless position. Jumbo Joe is the biggest (size-wise) pussy in the NHL, and I can never root for any team he plays for. He is 2 rungs below Claude Lemieux on my Hockey Ladder of Hate (and I think it would take somebody killing my puppy to get 1 rung below Claude).

If anybody had any doubts about Jimmy Howard, I think he has silenced those doubts. He proved during this series that at the very least he can be the starting goaltender the Wings need to make a playoff run, and I will not have any questions about Jimmy in future seasons.

yeah was actually gonna post something about that. With all of the questions throughout the season and even trying to acquire a goaltender I think Howard definitely silenced all of those doubters questioning if he can lead this team full time. He played a hell of a series and beyond what I was expecting against a good puck possession team who generates a lot of shots. He has surely earned the job and does not deserve any heat/questions about starting going into next season.

Seems like the better Thornton plays, the more hate he gets, and he got a lot of hate in the past when he didn't play well in the postseason.
