Don't think adding Beagle on its own would be such a terrible move for Vancouver, even as overpaid as he'll be. Not like they're gonna be competetive anyway. The bigger problem is obv the thought process that it reveals. They're gonna end up with Lucic somehow. HOMETOWN BOY

Canucks were 27th in the league with 218 goals scored last season

Daniel Sedin was tied for 1st on the team with 55 points
Henrik Sedin was 3rd with 50 points

i mean, there's zero point in the Canucks signing Jay Beagle for 3 years, which is the issue

i couldn't care less about next season, but at some point they're gonna start to come out of this, and they don't need to saddle themselves with a 35yo 4C eating up cap space

the whole thing is so stupid

they keep doing this, acting like it's hard to get bottom-6 plugs, and paying a premium for it
they already have a billion guys who are 4th line trash/AHL fodder
it's why they suck
why pay millions for it when you can get it anywhere for the league minimum?

spend your money on skill players with potential upside and/or get stuff for eating other teams' mistakes

Kangz dude saying that Brad Doty will sign an 8-year extension on July 1 that will make him the highest paid player on the team, which i didn't think was too surprising, until i looked and saw that Anje Kopidor is making $10MM/year

so yeah, gl with all of that

The only way Tavares signs in TO is if it's for a one year run at the Cup. Toronto simply can't handle a Tavares level salary in subsequent years without losing a Marner type.

Pittsburgh proved you can overcome mediocre to bad defense if you have enough firepower up front. If Dubas can somehow convince him to sign that one year deal, it's a no brainer.
Meh, why do people keep saying this? There are other parts they can move (i.e. Kadri) to make the Tavares cap hit more palatable. Not to mention the fact that JVR, Komorov and Bozak are all coming off the books and will be replaced by younger, cheaper players from the Marlies. Oh, and Marner and Matthews are still on their ELCs and even once they're due for new contracts they'll have no rights so I could envision a scenario where Dubas plays a little hardball with them. I've heard Dreger speculate that Marner is looking for $9MM+. Yeah ****ing right. Dubas isn't Chiarelli stupid. Point being, they can make this work if they want to.

If that Doughty contract comes in at less than 8yr, $100M I'll be just fine. If it's less than $88M I'll be shocked.

OEL @ 71.5/9 for age 27-36 >>>>> Doty @ 95/9 for age 29-38

approach me.

(wonder what the numbers on a pole like this would be ..... 80% Doty?)

Beagle update : #Canucks still in mix but price and term keeps going up and up because so many teams involved. Not done to Vancouver.
earlier they Canucks supposedly had him @ 7.5/3 ..... watch it end up closer to my "joke" guesstimate of 11/3

I’m hearing Roussel with #Canucks could be a 4 year deal worth just a tad over 3 million dollars per season.
and the hits just keep on coming

The Canadiens acquire forward Joel Armia, goaltender Steve Mason, a seventh-round draft pick in 2019 and a fourth-round pick in 2020 from the Winnipeg Jets, in exchange for defenseman Simon Bourque.
I'm down for some of that Mason conny for Armia.

I admit DD is a reach but well worth it at that. Getting a dman is paramount though. If Parayko is really available (which I doubt) that would be worth a package as well.

Tavares or anyone similar in his spot isn't signing a 1-2 year deal with anyone imo, too much risk. If he gets injured or has a really bad season he could end up costing himself 10's of $millions. Maybe there is a way around this but I don't see it. Good news here is we don't have to wait long to find out!.

Nylander for Tanev... just LOLOLOL.

This is probably lolme because of something I've missed, but is there a reason why people are surprised that Tavares hasn't signed yet? I thought free agency opens July 1.

Update : Despite the market driving up the price, the #Canucks are very very much in the race to land Beagle. This is a player they really like.

Isles been considered heavy favs this whole time

I'd be shocked if he stayed now, I'm still feeling Sharks especially after the report of a blank check offer and something happening today wrt it

JT is being really obnoxious dragging this out tho, LeBron Jr

i wouldn't have surprised if he stayed

- big ticket NHL players never seem to change teams in free agency
- he's been there for a while, so i imagine he's comfortable lifestyle-wise
- lots of good prospects there (nabbed 2 more this draft in Wahlstrom & Dobson)
- Lou & Trotz in is presumably some stability
- new rink on the way
- lots of cap room to make him massive offer w/ 8th year

if he were staying why would he drag it out tho

feel like if he knew it was Isles he would have been like yeah I'm staying 2 days ago

the long term ramifications of Toronto/TB picking up a 12 mil a year player right now would be hilarious to watch tho when Matthews/Marner and Kuch are up

i'm sure he has a lot to consider

fwiw Stamkos & the Sedins made it to UFAland and then stayed
i'm sure there are other notable examples

that said, sounds like he's signing with Toronto
+ labron to the Lakers =

Stamkos had a meeting with Toronto and canceled the rest before the 1st and resigned with TB. He was quick (29th).

Sedins don't count since they had to stay together obv

anyone but Toronto for JT is great, especially for the HF salt

Really hopy Tavares doesn't re-sign with the Islanders. Hope the Atlantic will be a slaugtherhouse if he goes to the Leafs, but I would love to see another super team like the Lightning in the Atlantic.

Hope the Bruins don't do anyhting super stupid in this years free agency, since trading hasn't worked out for them so well so far.

Vanek apparently going to sign with the Red Wings again. Hope he gets another good deal and if they are smart the can again trade him at the deadline.
