Their cap situation for years to come is really good and they have so many good contracts. They just need a #2C

8 x 8 for Johansen is too much imo. Good player but he only scored 14 goals last year and 14 goals the year before that.

hot take deluxe...

he spent nearly all his 5 on 5 playing time with Arvidsson and Forsberg.

Arvidsson and Forsberg combined for nearly 500 shots last year and RyJo had 150 too. There are only so many shots that can go around and he is a great setup man.

If you have the chance to lock up your #1c during the rest of his prime and buy as many UFA years as they did for 8 mil, this should be a no brainer.

Ya, honestly love that contract for Johansen.

Wings sign Tatar at 5+ and Nashville signs Arvidsson for a little over 4....

Someone tell me who the better GM is?

dom's 2017 front office confidence rankings

worst:
31 - Avs
30 - Canucks
29 - Red Wings
28 - Canadiens
27 - Islanders

worst 4 make sense, but i thought Snow made enough decent moves that he shouldn't be that far in the basement though. probably some general low profile team bias against them.

best:
1 - Predators
2 - Penguins
3 - Lightning
4 - Maple Leafs
5 - Hurricanes

Rutherford kind of overrated due to just having Sid & Geno etc, Yzerman quite overrated based on rep (he's had a bad time of it lately imo), Lou kinda mashing buttons and somewhat overrated (Dubas was crushing it), Francis/EricT could probably be as high as 2.

notable homers: (fans of team scored way higher than the public)
* Kings +0.6 : think the public is correct here, they've been doing a bad job of it for a while now
* Devils +1.1 : bias against low profile teams, Shero has been one of the better GMs in NJ imo
* Sabres +0.7 : maybe the most underrated homer fan base in the league, they've been doing ok, but calm down
* Flyers +0.8 : have also been doing ok, but their fans are probably being a little too homerish
* Coyotes +1.2 : more bias against a low profile team, they've been making a lot of smart moves, and sooner or later it'll pay off
* Jets +0.6 : like with Buffalo, no shock that the Winnipeg fans are homers (small town syndrome)
* Stars +0.9 : another relatively low profile team, fans probably more correct than the public here
* Hurricanes +0.6 : blah blah low profile team blah blah
* Lightning +0.6 : wonder when the world will finally turn on Stevie Y ... oh well, he can always return to Detroit

hater$ ghana hate: (scored higher with the public than their own fans)
* Red Wings -0.5 : oh, they MAD
* Capitals -0.3 : getting a little tired of not even making it to the ECF i see
* Sharks -0.1 : probably right to be frustrated
* Wild -0.3 : another fan base getting chaffed about a lack of playoff progress

closest to even: (fans & public seeing eye to eye, all +/- 0.1)
* Islanders
* Bruins
* Sharks
* Senators
* Predators

Bit surprised by the discrepancy between the rankings with the Stars. I wouldn't really label them low profile either, southern market yes but they've made a number of splashy moves with big names that should resonate with the public

Stars just always are lower profile than they should be
no one talks about them in Canada, and WC US teams don't get the coverage down there either (e.g. Sharks & Ducks)
even when they were at their best they got buried behind the Wings & Avs, even though they were clearly a top4 team in the league along with the Devils for like 5-10 years

i don't really know why they always seem to get treated like a rando southern expansion team, it just is
maybe adding a rival in Houston would help...

but yeah, public prolly LOVES the Bishop move, even though it's meh
and Canadian public & media prolly LOVES the Methot pickup
but their best 2 moves were obv Radulov & Hanzel
nice summer

They're in our division, an old Jet is the GM and the whole Pavelec vs. Lehtonen story, so we get to hear about them sometimes.

sadly, zero

Wednesday night rivalry has some block busters tho, including STL-PIT, BUF-CBJ and TBL-BOS

also TIL that the caps and leafs play an outdoor game this season. Huh.

Last year, they had two top 10 in the league scorers and a goalie who finished 4th in Vezina voting signed for a total of 6M in cap hit (which would be a great value for any ONE of those three assets). I doubt any GM in history ever had that kind of gift, and I'd argue that based on that alone, the Oilers underperformed by only reaching the 2nd round.

he's not giving any marks at all, it was voted on by the public. he's just commenting on the results & team.

16 games for the LolFlyers, same as the number for the Penguins, more than the Caps & Rangers
seems legit, Comcast

Stars add Bishop, Radulov, Hanzel & Methot but drop from 4 games to 2
def not a low profile market

3 of Vegas' 5 games being on the road is pretty funny
we're not watching because of their roster, guys

12 games for the Red Wings, lol
12 games for the Kings, lol

Flames, Jets & Canucks the only teams shut out
probably should have found a way to get the first two on somehow, as they could both be playoff teams

Seriously. You don't get credit for drafting the best player of the generation and watching him drag a mediocre team into the 2nd round. Anyone can do that.

http://www.firstlinestats.com/ is the beta version for the "new" corsica. But yeah it's great. Can't wait till they lose a lot of interest from "hardcore" fans because they just provide their really bad stuff at nhl.com

Since the NHL is not even able to provide a working backet challenge I doubt they are able to really improve their poor stats site.
