DeKeyser's been a pleasant surprise for Detroit. Surprise in the sense that he hasn't really looked out of place at all - I thought he'd have significantly harsher growing pains given the frying pan he got thrown into. He's a pretty good testament to just how important strong technical skating is these days; without it, you're at such a huge disadvantage.

Compare DeKeyser's introduction to the way Brendan Smith's looked at times this year, and yeah.

might be the best case scenario imo
Since we were in this spot last year and the Sharks beat the Kings on the last day to set up sj/stl, la/van and that ****ed the Sharks over. Hopefully they have now learnt and will forfeit Saturdays game so the Kings can take the easier matchup vs the Blues

Hoping for Edm, Car, Tampa & Colorado wins might be too much. I'd love us to have back to back picks in the early stages of the second round.
04-25-2013 , 02:54 PM
We can't catch Colorado.

Also, "back to back picks," lol. That's adorbs.
04-25-2013 , 04:25 PM
Colorado can still catch up on Nashville
04-25-2013 , 04:34 PM
Ah, that's right. Sorry, my apologies, forgot you've got a 2nd rounder from the Kostitsyn trade. I thought you were implying you'd pick back-to-back as a result of us finishing 30th and you guys winning the Cup.

My bad, I take back my snark.
04-25-2013 , 04:35 PM
Actually, in a very deep draft class, Montreal picking 3 times in the 20th-35th range is pretty ****ing stellar, wow.

I'm confused as to why you would say this when you are clearly a Wings fan given your avatar.

The young guys, especially Nyquist, Brunner, and DeKeyser have stepped up nicely to fill key roles, giving me hope that this team won't be a total dumpster fire once Dats and Zetterberg move on.
I was going to respond to this but zimmer sums it up well with some of the forwards he mentioned. I would also like to say that their young guys on D have been playing well also. Detroit completely dominated the last couple of games territorially (I know that's spelled wrong and possibly not even a word, deal with it)

I've been trying to get atak into this thread but he says he hasn't kept enough with the NHL this year so he didn't want to post when he was uninformed. I told him that it's perfect because the NHL regs expect Red Wings fans to be obnoxious/idiots/bandwagoners but I guess that didn't sound too enticing.

Datsyuk played well
Zetterberg outside of the nifty pass to Franzen was decent
Franzen had spurts of his playoff streakiness
Howard - thats why we signed him to that contract

D is suspect - can hold their own (make me nervous)

3rd and 4th liners played solid which is what he was getting at.

Def overachieved last night

Carey Price made a new friend

My mother told me a story, her neighbour's daughter's husband was in a bar downtown after work [not sure if it was last night] and the Habs were in there. The coach wasn't interested in talking to him. He went to the bar, had a burger. Price sat next to him and they chatted, "My daughter would love to talk to you." Price said to dial her up and talked to her for a couple of minutes about school and sports. The girl is totally thrilled and the guy is a bit conflicted about cheering against The Canadiens. "Who's the best Dad in the World?"

Yea considering what we gave up for it, its pretty sweet.
Apparently,

1-5 >>>>>6-10>>11-50.

There should be a lot of good prospects falling as teams and scouting reports have guys within that range ranked all over the place.

We got pretty lucky in that regard over the last few years. We picked up Coll berg last year which was ranked ~top 15 @ 33 and Beaulieu the year before which was expected to be picked up ealier.

Washington got Forsberg (11th) last year and Buffalo got Grigorenko (12th), both of which were expected to be drafted in the top 5.

This could be a really good year for something along those line to happen again. Having two picks back-to-back would be pretty cool, if there's two fallers you don't have to deliberate between the two of them and having to sweat 3-4 picks before you can draft the other.

I also hope we use late round picks on guys like Andrighetto and Slepyshev. I'd prefer wasting picks on talented kids that are going to play overseas for a few years and might come back one day, then opting for the equity involved in drafting your usual 7th rounder.

I don't even know what club in Edmonon still has hooter shooters.

Now if he only could learn to stop pucks, he'd be the total package.
04-25-2013 , 07:06 PM
Karlsson comes back, and still little to no talk about Jason Spezza.

I wonder who's back was in worse shape at this stage in their career - Spezza or Eric Daze.

You lose balance and diminish COG, you can dislocate shoulders like that and you open up your head to getting popped. If Pominville skates through that play with two hands on his stick, not only is he more likely to neutralize Brown anyways, but he's in a much better position to absorb any contact that comes his way.

And just because they're pros doesn't mean they're immune from bad decision-making. Both guys showed a reasonable amount of it in that play (Brown more so, ldo).
Geddy, I appreciate the rational reply. Like I said, it was just the LOL Pominville part that got me. he has been such a good, clean player for so long that i can't help but root for him, and despised seeing what Brown did to him.

Geezus, Kindl needs to learn how to play defense.
