Even though Rangers not making it would be great, Habs-Rangers round 1 would be so much better for so many reasons. Butts would be hurt, there's no way around it.

In other news, Bruins finally have meaningful injuries, after 2-3 years of running well. I feel like the Sens when all they had lost was a few guys. We can float Krejci/Kelly/McQuaid. But if a top 4 or top 6 guy goes down on top of this, it's gonna be:

NHL 94 is 20 years old now, wow. I feel so goddamn old right now

just checked the overall standings. The ducks are just incredible right now, jesus. Seems like nobody is talking about them or why they are killing it.

I remember the day Sargeant Pepper was 20 years old, it's the reason 20 years is a marker now for albums and entertainment, they made a big deal about it because the lyrics include the line, "It was 20 years ago today, Sgt. Pepper told his band to play." That was more than 25 years ago.

The worst was when one of my favourite albums was 20 years old and the very hip group of my youth did the comeback tour...and I coudn't wait to get tickets.

Speaking of feeling old...

Wednesday night in Hamilton is Motown Night. There's a downtown bar that plays all kinds of 60's and 70's R&B and it's literally one of the most popular nights you'll find anywhere in the city. It was my jam in undergrad - I rarely missed a night, knew everyone there, felt like a boss, etc. But now they've moved to a new location and for whatever reason, it doesn't feel the same.

Anyways, my sister's in 2nd year and she's been hanging out with foreign exchange students all year, to the point where they convinced her to do an exchange next year in Leeds, England. They're great kids and I've met most of them - in fact, our folks have hosted a ton of them for dinners and drinks. But my sister neglected to mention the fact that there's a threesome of 21-year old Irish girls who occasionally come out as well, and they're a ****ing riot. Met them for the first time on Tuesday night, and they suggested I should come out to Motown last night to see them get right proper ripped.

And did we ever...

This was my plan: I work on campus anyways, so I figured I would go out, have a good time and then crash on my sister's couch. Then, I'd wake up in the morning, get a quick shower and a bite, and I'd be in the office for 9, with no one the wiser. Foolproof, amirite?

Fast forward to 7 am this morning, where I was woken up by campus security, lying flat on my face in a first-year residence hallway, outside of the hottest Irish girl's dorm room, and I have no recollection of how I got there. "Are you a student here?" Well yes, kind of. "Do you have a room here in residence?" Well...no, I live off campus. "Alright, let's go. We're calling the special constable."

Now I'm freaking out. I offer to excuse myself and apologize, but he's having none of it. He says since he's under the suspicion that I was publicly intoxicated, they need to involve police. **** **** **** **** ****. But first, the student emergency medical response shows up as we're standing outside of the residence building, they look at me perplexed and I tell them I'm fine and I'm sorry for wasting their time. Poor bastards looked all excited to get some experience reviving a dead guy or something...and then the cop arrives. Very nice guy. Asks for ID, I provide it without question. Asks for my recollection of events, and I tell him that we went out, I was coherent all night and I have no idea how I got to that point. Told him (truthfully) that I had no more than 2 drinks at the actual bar last night.

At this point, original security guy is looking at me like I'm full of **** and he wants to intervene, but before he can, the cop tells him "you guys can head out, he's not getting detained, just wanted to take down his info in case we find out something more." Security guy also walks away disappointed. Now I'm profusely apologizing to the cop and telling him about my half of the family that's all Chicago PD, and we start a nice chat about the service. He tells me that there have been reports of rape drugs being slipped into drinks on Wednesday nights and he encourages me to have a bit more caution with my drinks, "even though you're a pretty big guy and you can probably handle yourself." We have a hearty laugh, and he goes on his way.

It's now 8 am, I get a coffee and I literally cannot believe how lucky I am that I didn't find myself in much more serious repercussions. Blacking out on your effective workplace premises can't be a good strategy for job security - even if it's just a co-op.

Cliffs: I need to grow up.

In the meantime, hope you guys enjoyed the TR. I'll do my best to get a picture up when my phone's not dead.

I'm blown away by their blueline. Pretty much nobody I consider outstanding. But it gets the job done.
03-21-2013 , 02:01 PM
my enjoyment of another GL TR is cockblocked by someone slipping him a roofie and erasing his memory. fml.

glad you are ok, gl.

Highly doubt I was roofied, because I think I'd feel a lot worse right now than I actually do. It was probably just the eventual outcome of drinking straight gin and straight vodka for my predrink.

Here's the great thing about the internet: someone else fires up pictures. Here I am before everything went Pete Tong last night...and I'm sitting beside said Irish girl, whose number I got last night, btw. She's adorable, very sweet girl.

Spoiler:

boudreau's gonna get halak'd in the first round again.

The blonde is a 14/10 on the Irish scale.

Geddy, the optimal line is to preemptively text an apology to the irish girl. She probably knows why you ended up passed out in front of her door.

fyi, attending a matchup of cwyse's third and fourth favorite teams today. if i am lucky, nootka might even roofie me.

for those watching on tv, i'll be in the lower bowl, wearing a kuzya traktor jersey. first of all, traktor is in the ECF (suck it Kari Ramo!), and secondly, it's in the honor of noted Traktor alum and Stanley Cup champion Slava Voynov.

Just looked at the games tonight. Big night for the standings. CAN'T WAIT

We were exchanging messages this morning, actually.

lol first off, I never know which method is being used, and secondly, watch your step, because one of those ladies is actually Geddy's li'l sis.

And obv this should go without saying, but no trainwrecking involving my sister, or I will find the culprit and break their legs with a Sher-Wood PMP 700 "Feather-Lite."

Spoiler:
i have to roofie her too

Basically a repeat of the Minnesota Wild, but this time there isn't enough time in the season to bring them back to earth. Can we take guesses at narratives now? My guess is on Getzlaf and Perry not trying because they got paid.

my money's on boudreau being a regular season champ/playoff choke.
03-21-2013 , 04:11 PM
It's always funny with west coast teams too, because I firmly believe very few MSM writers/pundits actually even watch the games at all. I've seen a reasonable chunk of Anaheim this year and past the obviously elite top line, they shouldn't scare anyone.

But what a top line - Ryan/Getzlaf/Perry has to be the best overall unit in hockey, hands down. Not sure it's even a contest.
03-21-2013 , 04:14 PM
you mean after gallagher desharnais pacioretty, surely.

Lupul gets 2 games FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU SHANABAN
03-21-2013 , 04:23 PM
Time flies, feels like only yesterday Lupul got hurt and was gonna miss most of the year.

I may be biased but I think the best unit in hockey is when the Habs are trailing and they play Markov and Subban together for like 5 minutes in a row without getting off the ice and then they don't trail anymore.
