Ya but the Tigers have it sooooooooooo much better than anyone in the AL East/West in that scenario which I hate.

1 game playoff imo is awful all the way around for NBA, MLB, and NHL...cool to watch cause of the dramaz...but that's about where I draw the line...just too many games played in a season to justify one game playoffs.

Exactly.

Weren't you just the guy talking about how things changed in the NHL? Things will change in MLB and that won't be the case.

Where are markets like Cleveland, KC and Minny going to find the cash to spend with the likes of Ilitch and Reinsdorf? Do you really think the new regional TV deals are going to equal the playing fields that much?

AFAIK the wildcard isn't a one game playoff. It's like, the top 3 teams from each division make the playoffs, as well as the top 4 of the remaining 18 teams from any division. It's that kind of wildcard.

This is how I understood the proposed realignment as well except wouldn't it be the top 2 teams and not 4?

3 teams from 2 divisions = 6 + 2 wildcards = 8

EDIT: I think you and I are saying the same thing, you looked at it from a league perspective and I looked at it from a conference perspective. Is it possible to have all 4 wildcards from the East or are they doing 2 per conference?

I cried a little when I read this post. Then I remembered OTTAWA THO.

Yeah, he never said a peep when the LAK acquired Richards and Gagne.

Classy move by DeanL. Gagne is a useful player who got caught in a numbers crunch. As a LAK fan, not happy to see depth suffer.

ESPN has it on below...not sure why NHL.com didn't have it but w/ev

http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/89...ns-source-says

Top 3 in each division then last two spots up for grabs with teams with best record maxing out playoff teams in a divison at 5.

kinda mixed on this...

Ya, so it's 8 per conference.

I personally hate the divisional stuff. I think the idea is to create rivalries and I think it will work in that sense to some degree but to me the best rivalries in the NHL over the past 20 years have included the following:

Detroit/Colorado
Edmonton/Dallas
Chicago/Vancouver
Pittsburgh/Washington

None of those teams play in the same division and were bred mostly by playoff matchups. The divisional series will guarantee that teams play each other a lot during the playoffs but I like the current system better personally.

Flyers made out nicely in that move. Welcome back #12.

What will HARRY ZOLNIERCZYK have to say about this?
02-26-2013 , 05:46 PM
He can keep his number in the minors still.

Gagne seems like one of the genuine good guys from what I can tell, hope he turns it around in Philly.

Gagne-Sakic-Iginla '02, the GOAT Team Canada line ldo

That's the thing, not a lot of turning around to do. Unless that pick is very good, it seems like a favor to a vet more than anything. (see Smyth, Ryan)

Just when I thought nobody could beat the KANGZ, we trade for the GOAT. GG NHL.
