You think he simultaneously played center for the Caps and goal for the Wild in the same season? Maybe why the other Backstrom was in witness protection or something?

Passing 3 teams to get there is sooo unlikely though.

If by some cruel twist of fate it happens anyway I'll probably jump off a cliff.

Look on the bright side Goofy, there is a 0% chance the Sharks face anybody good in the second round.

Ok, for fun pick the best player on your team you would trade for Thornton right now.

He has one year left on his deal at 7.2 then a UFA.

I'll start: Burrows

Mathieu Darche

but seriously... I guess I'd take Thornton's 7.2M instead of having to pay Plekanec more than 5M.

This may have been talked about already...

Edmonton had to scramble to find a backup for tonight and went with a university goalie.

What has to happen for them to dress this goalie? Does he sign a contract? How much does he get paid to sit on a bench for a game? It would be a pretty awesome experience for the guy.

Kaberle for Thornton in a heartbeat

With only 1 year left, I can't see getting rid of any of our young players with potential, and nobody would want the rest

I dunno but if he gets something around the minimum contract for one week or so might be off pretty good to party for the rest of the year :P

They sign a day contract AFAIK.

I remember this happened way back when with the Canucks. Something like starter goalie goes down. AHL team is on the other side of the continent and we needed a backup netminder. We turn to UBC (university of BC, ldo) but the varsity team was playing somewhere far away. They had to turn to the third-string goaltender who was studying in the library for an exam when he got a call from friends saying a scout was here.

Funniest part about this story is when our goalie (Hedberg, I believe?) went down hard during the game (>5 minutes). The cameras turned to this ~18 year old ginger kid who was sweating his balls off and chewing his bubble gum like no tomorrow. Luckily for his 3.37 - .897% ass, Hedberg got up and finished the game. Apparently rumour has it that he goes on and scores a monster mark on his exam the next day.

lol, I might not actually. Are we assuming that after this trade the team has to still fit under the cap? Burrows will be $5.5m cheaper than Jumbo for the next 3 seasons, and the Canucks don't really need another center anyway. It'd force them to move Kesler either to the 3rd line, or back to RW (which might not be so bad, but...).

Burrows has proved to be a great fit and has shown a lot of chemistry playing with either the Sedins or Kesler, and actually he could probably play with just about anyone. I think he still doesn't get enough credit for what he does on the ice, more talented than most think probably. Burrows for Jumbo would make this team more like Pittsburgh, with great centers playing with not-so-good wingers, especially if they have to dump $5m more in salary.

How many big money players can a team have anyway? Adding Jumbo would give the Canucks 5 players (3 of them centers) making about $5m/year or more (with 4 D-men at over $3m). Something would have to give...
