wow, guerin with the first good move of his career, coming out and saying his teammate's hit was gutless and deserved a suspension. that doesn't quite make up for being in the crease in game 4, or holding out the next off-season, or the myriad of offenses that go up to breaking paul martin's arm this year, but it's a start.

awesome. it's funny that it was for a hit on marc savard that set iginla off. also like boughner trying to get in there and then realizing it wasn't his place to do so.

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bill Guerin says the NHL must outlaw hits to the head.

That includes the kind of hit leveled by Guerin's teammate, Matt Cooke, against the Boston Bruins' Marc Savard.

Cooke was suspended two games this season for a hit to the head of Rangers center Atrium Animism. He also drew a two-game suspension for a hitting Carolina forward Scott Walker in the head on Jan. 20, 2009.
Nice typo.

Can someone explain to me why goalies often get the night off in back to back games? Is playing goalie more taxing than playing forward or d? Or are they simply trying to keep the backup sharp? I started wondering last night when I saw the Canucks were playing Raycroft.

When you consider that a goalie plays 60 minutes and needs to be focussed for the entire time, it's probably mentally exhausting, even if not physically demanding. ALthough, I have a feeling it's probably pretty physically demanding as well, and goalies are particularly vulnerable to injuries that come from fatigue, like muscle strains.

I know Malkin is having an "off" year so Crosby has to do more and Ovechkin is just being Ovechkin which is just great but as someone said prior if you take both of them off their teams wouldn't both teams likely still make the playoffs.

Now if you remove Miller and replace him with an average goalie they are fighting for a playoff spot and if you take away Sedin it kills his twins production and leaves Kessler as their go to guy, but they do have Luongo also.

I don't think Miller is having the kind of season to warrant the MVP trophy as most voters as we know look at the Vezina as all the Goalies need. Only 3 times in the past 60 years has a goalie won the Hart. Hasek x2 and he clearly had MONSTER years and more than warranted them and then Jose ****ing Theodore (are you kidding me) he went 30-24-10 and while he had a GAA of 2.11 and a S% of .931... This totally baffled me...

I think its a toss up between Crosby/Ovie/Sedin... and my personal choice would be anyone but Crosby
Miller is having a phenomenal year, but yeah, I'm not sure if it's good enough to give him the Hart on top of the Vezina. No player can really impact a game as much as a goaltender can, that's just the nature of the position and voters take that into account. More importantly he isn't among the league leader in wins which hurts his bid for the Hart trophy.

Henrik is having a great year but I wouldn't put him ahead of Ovechkin / Crosby. They each have a whopping 17 more goals than Sedin. Vancouver also has arguably the best goalie in the world and plenty of secondary scoring.

I think I made this exact same post in a 90s music thread once. I hope so, at least, because I've had this pic in my photobucket for as long as I can remember.

Also, Save Tonight = awesome.

There is a more significant recovery time from what I can imagine, while endurance wise I don't think it is significant but more wear and tear on fast twitch muscles and the constant up down. The wear and tear on their groin, quads and hamstrings has to be unbelievable. Along with the mental focus etc for such long portions of the game has to be taxing.

I wonder if they just day dream sometime, like on a 5 on 3 power play they pretty much just stand up and lean against the goal while looking down the ice paying just enough attention to play the puck on a clear or ready themselves if there is any kind of counter rush.

For all you Calgary fans there is a chance Detroit only faces Lalime and not Miller on Saturday since its back to back games and both are out of conference.

But

Miller is from Michigan so rumor is he might push to sit Fri and play Saturday.

..and Flames fans Ill cheer for Calgary today if you cheer on Detroit Saturday..

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm going to try to be fair and unbiased, and hopefully I won't have to do too much around here. I generally think the thread is really good, and don't see too much that needs to change. I'm a little worried about an influx of new posters as we head into the playoffs, so let's try to play nice with them.

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or what have you, feel free to PM me and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Oh yeah, and Wrane, DaExMan, manifest, and all the other Canuck fans now have free reign to do whatever they want. And Geddy better not so much as look at me cross-eyed, or else!

Congrats on the mod title, 72o. You'll do a good job here.

I think you'll have it easy here at the beginning. This thread doesn't need much mod intervention right now. Come playoff time though, you'll probably have your hands full.
