For crooked or anyone else that didn't see it. How that isn't called, I have no idea.

I thought Ray Ferraro was gonna leave the booth and go pound on Lapierre. Pretty ****ty hit, imo

meh, puck bounces right back at Nichol, Lapierre was trying to prevent him from scoring.

Hmm, that's kind of true, didn't even notice that on the first half dozen replays. The puck does come back to him and Nichol takes a swipe at it. I was going to say I don't know why Lapierre did that, guess that's why. Don't really know why Nichol seemed so unprepared for any contact there, didn't look to brace himself at all. Ref was right there, no call, guess he agreed with Lapierre...

Was he even hurt on the play? Looked like he was dead, then he popped right back up when he realized there was no call and got into the scrum. What's the injury report say?

Go ice fishing and fall in.

Nichol went to the dressing room and did not play (or even return to the bench) for the rest of the game.

Not cold enough for that, high of 15°C today, brah. Shorts and t-shirt weather...

All I'm saying is that the ref was like 5 feet away, looking right at the play (I think, didn't double-check the replay) and didn't make any call. Maybe he felt that Nichol's 2nd chance at the shot enabled Lapierre to play the body, even with a borderline cross-check in the "danger zone".

How often does someone get hit in that spot? Nichol had to know there wasn't anyone in front of or alongside him and people usually don't get touched two seconds after shooting on a breakaway while still moving in the same direction.

lol. It's a cross-check, it's boarding, the ref may not have been looking at it (the replays CSN showed made it look like he might have been looking towards the goal instead), and even if he was that doesn't mean it wasn't a terrible no-call.

no, the ref didn't see it, and if he did he saw it out of the corner of his eye. my problem is that hits like this are real dangerous, sometimes draw suspensions, and are usually only called a minor penalty on the ice, if they're even called at all. i think hits like this should be a 2 and 10 or something like that, i know it'll never happen and it'll just make things more confusing, but it's one of hockey's stranger rules quirks that heavy hits into the boards that can result in serious injury and tiny hooks on the glove are penalized the same.

gotta love nichol taking the patrick kaleta class at appearing injured after a boarding call though

i watched the second period on gamecenter, great stuff - the penalty shot, all these 4 on 3 power plays - totally the sort of game that i would've watched the whole thing if it weren't for hockey's [censored] 2 intermissions.

They definitely should be doing better than hanging on to 8th place for dear life. Getting Franzen, Lilja, and Kronwall back is huge for them. The key difference between this year's Red Wings and the team from the past couple of years is definitely their depth. They were able to sustain injuries like this in past years because they had guys like Darren Helm in the minors to pull up. Now when key injuries happen the are are reduced to an AHL team (although still better than the Oilers)

What's the alternative? Two 30 minute periods and one intermission?

I agree that it sucks but it only really bothers me when there is only or two games on at the time. On a busy night in the NHL intermissions are whatever, provided you have access to the other games.

it's 34 minutes of dead time - that's a lot. i have a hard time sticking around for 17 minutes to watch a non-playoff game of two teams i don't care about.

lol ACC basketball

Reading through the Buccigross mailbag on espn website and I see the following comment.

"I'm a diehard Flyers fan. I hate Sidney Crosby but he's not overrated. He's a great player who has accomplished more at such a young age than I can even fathom. Aside from the fact that he plays for the state rival Penguins, what I really dislike is the media's coverage of him. The media won't stop talking about him and it starts grating on your nerves. I'm tired of it.

He had his issues his rookie year, but he's grown and matured a lot. The complaints that people could make by nitpicking before aren't really there anymore.

To be fair, as a Flyers fan, I equally hate the 'Crosby sucks' chants that take over the Wachovia Center when the Pens come to town. It's nothing shy of idiotic. It doesn't get him off his game at all. If anything, it provides him with more of a reason to play with an edge. Granted, fans have the right to chant it as much as they want, but it's annoying and doesn't do anything at all, except make us look like idiots when he plays a good game against the Flyers."

No way a Flyers fan wrote that; I call BS.

I was starting to think the same thing about Crosby, actually...

Then I saw his dive last night.
