Whoa, very creative joke - I've only heard it after every Crosby hat trick since!

Also Ruff whines more than Crosby.

Doesnt make it any less funny.

Really now? every coach whines and bitches, its their job. They can get away with saying a lot more than a player so they have to defend or state the case.

Ruff is one of the top coaches in hockey, and when there was talk of Sabres cutting him (and regier) loose. He would have probably gotten the most prolific coaching contract in hockey

You mean that wall of text you sent me? I couldn't be bothered to read all that.

And no, I do not want to bet on the salary cap.

And Crosby has the C on his jersey, meaning his responsibility is to talk to the refs about things. Yet when everybody sees Crosby talk to the refs he's "whining." Double standards are fun!

I think you're right, on all accounts.

Quote:
Better question: Besides accusations of rigging, what happens if the Leafs win that lottery? Besides no rings, ofc.
You might have to refresh my memory as to what they were doing coming out of the lockout (I'll assume buying a lot of people out to get under the cap), but the team didn't look too good. Sundin still performing well, Tucker with his 28 goals (18 PPG), Ponikarovsky with 21 goals, McCabe having a good year, Kaberle solid as usual, Allison, Steen, Wellwood, O'Neill, and Antropov contributing. Lindros managed to get a few games in, Aki Berg played 75 times, the goaltending looked pretty mediocre with the Belfour/Tellqvist tandem being outshone by JS Aubin.

Not a great amount to build on, but Crosby would have certainly changed all that. I imagine they would have been pretty interested in clearing out as much dead wood as possible, allowing interested free agents the chance to play with either Sundin or Crosby. Getting a solid goaltender would have likely been a priority.

I don't recall the Leafs having a lot coming through the system, but I could be wrong there. At minimum, if you had Crosby you wouldn't have had Rask later in that draft, which means you never trade for Raycroft. idk, what do you think happens if the Leafs win that (aside from the Ewing/frozen envelope conspiracy theories)? I'm sure you have some thoughts on this.

Tangent: I remember watching that lottery, and they paused for a commercial with 10 to go. There were 3 Canadian teams left, was hoping Crosby would land up here (like Vancouver with Naslund, Bertuzzi, Sedins?), then:

10. Vancouver
9. Ottawa
...
5. Montreal

Well, so much for that...

/kool story brah

Don't take it personal, but why would you send me such a ridiculously long pm when I already told you I have no intention on making any bets on the salary cap? It's not like I even disagreed that the cap would go down, I just think making statements like "the cap will be down in 5 year's time, if you don't believe me bet me 5k on FTP!" is stupid.

If the Leafs win the Crosby lottery:

JFJ still doesn't buy out enough contracts
Still gives out too many big contracts to bad players
Probably trades Pogge for ****ing Raycroft, and Pogge wins the Vezina, Calder & Hart in the same year
JFJ doesn't get fired, the saviour doesn't get hired, and the Leafs have the same situation with Crosby as they did with Sundin: lots and lots of mediocre players that never play in the NHL after their Leafs contract is up and one superstar.
