I mean, basically the definition of hockey play here is "an action that could occur in a hockey game within the rules", even though they aren't in this situation

I have really slowed down posting and unsurprisingly this had lead to a fair drop in traffic. I still will be updating it a few times a week probably.

As I told you before, I've thought about a hockey site or blog before, but it's a lot easier in soccer because there is no stat stuff anywhere so there is a lot of low-hanging fruit. I also haven't learned the programming stuff so the stat ideas I came up with that we talked about will have to be put on hold. That will take even longer since I'm being responsible and actually working on my dissertation that should have been done 2+ years ago.

I feel bad saying this, but that kid down on the ice in convulsions? Looks soo fake. My 3 year old does that when she's hurt and wants to make sure everyone knows it. Especially since he was on TV 2 days later.

NOTE: This in no way reduces my opinion of the terribleness of the hit. But kid should be playing soccer

I finally found the link in your profile and checked it out. It looks good, but I know little about soccer, so couldn't dig too far in to it.

BTW anybody know the legal situation with using stats scraped from sites like nhl.com or espn? I have read that the US circuit court (I think, the one below the SC) ruled that names and stats are facts and hence in the public domain. The case was I think cbs against MLB where MLB sued to prevent CBS from using the names and stats for fantasy baseball. The supreme court declined to hear the case which means that the ruling stands.

It seems a bit too simple though. I'm far from that point, but I am worried about actually doing the **** I've thought about and getting sued by some huge company like the NHL, ESPN or Stats Inc. Where do sites like puck prospectus, behind the net and football outsiders get their stuff? I haven't emailed them for a quote but based on googling, stats inc seems prohibitively expensive.

I'm mostly interested in what would be my own stats. I have an idea for a better +/- that takes into account teammates and opponents, for example. So if necessary I might not need to post generic stuff that is available elsewhere, but obviously it would be better to do so. I would still need the TOI sheets from somewhere though.

I know it's a stupid opinion, and I'm not going to defend it, but that's just the impression I get when I see it.

Considering the condition he was in afterwards it's a pretty ridiculous thing to say. There is no chance he was faking it regardless of how it looks.

afaik jared, it's perfectly legit to use them, and given the proliferation of sites that do use them, all over the internet, i don't think it's something to be massively concerned about. glad to see you back, was wondering what happened to you.

it's close; carolina's probably going to deal off everyone they can, whereas edmonton isn't going to be able to deal anyone. depends on how ethical carolina's feeling - if cam ward gets the majority of the starts, they're almost certainly better than edmonton even with the trades.

Huge companies only sue people with deep pockets or people who are costing them serious money. No idea about the first but I doubt the second applies to you.
