imho not overpaying for gonchar next year is going to be good for the pens in the long run, cause hes not going to get younger and less injury prone imho..
$44.508m total (14 players signed)
~$1.6m/player (assuming a cap of around $57.5m, with 8 more players to be added)
Not a terrible looking situation for Pittsburgh, but like T said probably similar to this year with the stars having to do a lot of heavy lifting.
Have they said they aren't bringing Gonchar back? I imagine they could try, but it'd start to get real tight. Any prospects that could make the jump would help out a lot wrt to the cap, especially on defense. I imagine they'll have another min-earner as the backup goalie, unless they have a prospect there.
Might get lucky and have the usual free agents lining up to play with those centers at a slight discount, but then again they might just end up with the Satan's & Sykora's of the world.
Wonder if at some point they'll consider the idea of dealing Malkin to give them more breathing room. Two players making $8.7m is always going to make it tough to add good wingers (plus a $4m 3rd liner, and a $5m goalie), short of drafting and developing cheaper options.
I wouldn't worry, they've already clinched 1st in the conference, and just about the league. Probably in cruise control right now. I might worry about goaltending, but that's about it. Unless a team like Philadelphia falls to the #8 spot, then I might get concerned. Habs might be a tricky matchup too, now that they're getting healthy. If they can get some goaltending from one of those guys, who knows?
And the stream I'm watching for the Wings game is super LOL. Whenever the Wings score, the dude plays a banjo celebration... that **** is ****ed up yo, he's probably part of Hutaree.
lol more banjo.... he's not awful either, but anyone from Michigan playing the banjo with a southern accent is probably someone in the KKK from Howell.
