Under never really in doubt after all, despite forssell's attempt at a jinx.
People have short memories. Last year the 3rd game got serious and the scoring stopped. File away for next year.

PHT today talking about the Lightning continuing on after Nesterov trade and just being sellers this year. if they don't start winning some games real soon they'll probably have to. and if it comes to that, i think Yzerman has an opportunity to fix some issues and set themselves up for the next 5-10 years.

issues:
1. expansion draft - kind of looming over everything with a lot of teams, and the TBL are one of the best examples with all the good, young depth they have. unless they make some trades, they're going to lose a good player to Vegas for nothing. but on the flip side, they could get lucky and be relieved of Killorn or Garrison.
2. Bishop/Vasilevskiy - the expansion draft is looming, have to do something here. somewhat problematic that the youngster hasn't been very good this season, but i guess it's not something i'd really sweat. keeping Bishop might simply not be an option given their cap crunch.
3. RFAs - Jonathan Drouin, Tyler Johnson, and Ondrej Palat, enough said. again, with their cap crunch they might have to make some tough decisions and move people they don't want to. Yzerman should have a pretty big phone bill over the next 6 months.
4. cap trash - Callahan at $5.8m, Killorn at $4.45m, Filppula at $5m, Garrison at $4.6m, Coburn at $3.7m, Carle's buyout at $1.83m ... Yzerman really needs to put in work and dig himself out of some awful holes here.

they do have a good prospect pool, so it should be possible to wiggle out with some quality moves.

and i would suspect that all of the above means that UFA Brian Boyle is gone, they should probably sell him before the deadline regardless of whether they start winning some games here. perfect depth center for a contender, should fetch some good assets for the future.

this is a pretty big test for Yzerman here. do it right and the TBL are probably a perennial contender for years to come. but fail, and, well, you know...

How did TBL end up with Callahan again? LOL 6 mil. Maybe Columbus is interested

Isles are being thrown out of Barclay's Center. Move them to Sudbury - Thunder Bay

- Yzerman didn't pick MSL for the 2010 Olympic team
- someone gets hurt, MSL named as replacement
- MSL hums and haws about it, eventually accepts
- Canada wins gold, everyone happy!
- butnahhhhh MSL still MAD, demands trade to NYR
- Callahan is what they offer, ~fair enough (both UFAs at the end of the season)
- Yzerman signs Callahan to that ridiculous extension, because he's not as good a GM as most ppl seem to think

Oh right, that debacle. Man I hated those TOUGH and GRITTY Rags teams with Callahan, Girardi et al. and that was before I had even heard of Corsi!

AHL All-Star Game, and more importantly, the CHL Top Prospects Game are both tonight

the latter being much see tv for people like Rawls and i

https://www.nhl.com/news/nolan-patri...me/c-286130902
http://www.isshockey.com/iss-top-31/

i'm not saying that i'll definitely be watching the Canucks' 2017 1st round pick here, but the ISS' #1, 3, 4, 5, 7 & 8 prospects will all be in action tonight, so...

advice for the degens: maybe take a flier on Team Cherry to break their long losing streak, team looks quite strong (Nolan Patrick, Gabriel Vilardi, Owen Tippett, Callan Foote), and will be coached by Simon WIM instead of Grapes this year ... how can you lose!?

First time I can remember that the Wild have been the Cup favorites. Such a fun season to watch - everything seems to be clicking right now. We could use a backup goalie and a 4th line center, but honestly I would be OK if they just stood pat barring injuries.

Leggo second half!

Big Bobby Mack's latest draft rankings

cliffs: 1.Patrick, 2.Hischier, not much consensus after that

seems like it could be a group of Timothy Liljegren, Gabe Vilardi, Casey Mittelstadt, Owen Tippett, and Michael Rasmussen next, but everyone from 3 on is being ranked wildly depending on who you ask

Quote:
Getting consensus on the Top 5, or for that matter the Top 10, isn't usually that difficult, but it was a tremendous challenge this year.

[...]

"I think what you're going to see is there could be a big difference between the mid-season rankings and the final rankings," one NHL scout said. "This is a year where there's not a lot separating the top 10 or 15 so if a player shows really well or really poorly it could make a bigger [than usual] difference."

[...]

If there's a decided lack of consensus on both Top 5 and Top 10 picks, the same holds true for the Top 20. Every prospect ranked from No. 14 to No. 21 on the TSN list got at least one vote in the Top 10.
kool kool kool, seems like a virtual lock that the Canucks pick like 8th and Benning totally ****s it up
