Four in a row for the Wild. Dubnyk best goalie in the league. Things are looking up. Parise still not right tho.

Is the Chief really going to lose in regulation here or what? Bruins sure got some good lines up front this year.

Had the absolute pleasure of taking in last night's game to see Iggy one last time (probably). 1,500 games is a helluva run for anyone, much less a guy who's logged the kind of miles Jarome did over 20 years. I think - or at least I hope - everyone's still got that one player who they kinda get geeked over; stars are what make the game fun.

Hope everyone's doing well in here, it's been too long. Did not think Elliott would be firmly entrenched as the backup at all, let alone this quickly, so that was a shock. But IMO, this is probably the deepest Flames forward mix since Jarome's last playoff year with the Flames ('08-'09) - I think there are enough pieces in that top nine to have the Flames competitive for a wild card at the very least. Middle of the pack possession team, but with competent goaltending and a few gamebreakers, in a weaker division? Why not.

Don't think it's coming until after the expansion draft, but is there any reason why the Flames 1st rounder this year *shouldn't* be in play? Feels an awful lot like Tre has set them up intentionally for a big move this offseason. I'll hang up & listen.

How good will Matt Murray be? As a 22 year old rookie here are his career NHL stats after he set many AHL records:

regular season: 20-4 / 1.92 / .933

post season: 15-6 / 2.08 / .923 with a Stanley Cup win.

Dunno if you guys listen to Ferraros pod, just played the latest episode and the segment with Brunette was hilarious. Starts from 18:40, recommend.

unless a deal opened up for a similar talented young player, i would say no. the only spot where you should be looking to move your 1st is when you're a juggernaut trying to maximize your SC equity, and i don't really see the Flames as being there. otherwise i'd like to just keep stockpiling prospects on those cheap EL contracts (especially if you think BT is a good drafter), always nice to have them coming through. even as a good team, you never know when you'll need them.

i very much prefer the "Red Wings model", as i think Gillis described it when he was GM of the Canucks. not that he practiced what he preached exactly, but the idea that being a perennial contender was preferable to going all-in boom/bust model of some GMs. you miss your chance and then it's another ~3 years of garbage cleaning up the scorched earth. think it's an especially good idea these days, what with SC equity seemingly flatter among all participants.

edit: then again, 12 of the last 18 SC finalists = Blackhawks, Penguins, Bruins, Red Wings, Kings
and 9 of the last 9 winners = Blackhawks, Penguins, Bruins, Red Wings, Kings

didn't even realize that the Canucks healthy scratched Baertschi last game. he's been their most productive player this season, and +5% relative in goals. not great possession stats, but not horrible, and in any case, it's not like they really care about that anyway.

their 2 worst Fenwickers btw are Sutter & Gudbranson. you know, those superstar addition core players. can't wait until they give Gudbranson the same ~$25m contract that Sutter got.

gjge overall, jfc

^ related:

- 1st goal against with Gudbranson & Sutter on
- Baertschi scores the equalizer, the announcers instantly credit the healthy scratch ofc, rather than say the fact that he's been the team's most productive player this season
- Gudbranson takes a stupid penalty, 'Canes make it 2-1 on the PP

lol

Kings haven't won in BuffaLOL in forever. Won't be winning tonight after giving up 4 goals in 6 minutes. Ugh.

update:

- Baertschi with a primary assist and another goal ... HEALTHY SCRATCHES FOR EVERYONE!!!
- the 'Canes are apparently so bad that Sutter & Gudbranson are on for 2 fluke goals for
- Gudbranson takes another stupid penalty, only it doesn't cost the Canucks this time

That is about as thin a no goal plus a penalty for goalie interference as you will ever see. The game would be doomed if they made every call like that.

Sometimes when I go to the grocery store and I'm walking down the dairy aisle I'll wonder about whatever happened to Geddy Lee.

Canucks just let in 4 in 6 mins as well, then topped it with 5 in 12mins, after having a 5-2 lead entering the 3rd. Now 7-6 Canes.

I violated the simplest of life rules tonight. People in glass houses should not throw rocks.

Leafs blow 2-0 lead with 8 mins to go and lose 3-2 in SO to SJ.

All the goals tonight.

Elliott back to the Blues? That would be hilarious.

I look forward to Geddy Lee becoming a LAK fan when Iginla comes to LA at the trade deadline. Kings really need a right shot for Kopi's line.
