eta: that mustache is not helping my case though

Yeah I intentionally found one with that awful stache. Pretty sure he looks quite a bit more normal this year.

Would Mettenberger actually be a top 5 pick if teddy didn't come out? Not sure if needle was just throwing out a name or something

I can't imagine he's top 5 unless he tears up the rest of the year plus the pro day/combine.

I don't think mettenberger is even first round.

Bridgewater > Mariota > manziel.

Mariota could stay in college.

What's the consensus on PEDs? Are they a detriment or a help to the health of an athlete?

What's going to happen when weed is legal in half the states? Will the NFL still treat it the same as steroids or crack?

Why would you switch coaches? Keep ****ano, tank season, get #1/#2 pick, fire Rutgers, hire Gruden seems like a solid plan.

Changing coaches now accomplishes nothing except risking that good pick.

Mettenberger probably has the biggest disparity regarding his pro prospects right now of any QB not named Johnny Manziel. He was pretty pedestrian last year, but this year, with some decent offensive coaching (from Cam Cameron of all people), he's shown a legit NFL arm, good mechanics, and generally good awareness, decision-making, and accuracy. His numbers have been depressed by his last two games, but they're still a significant step forward from last year.

It's the combination of performance this year, physical skills, and developmental curve that make him a potential first-rounder. On the other hand, if he'd come out last year, he probably would have been a day-3 pick.

Because this has gone from "tanking" to "total embarrassment" and because having Schiano in there as opposed to a run-of-the-mill bad coach might actually be hindering young players' development.

Why on Earth would Gruden come back to the same owners and GM that fired him in the first place?

I'm rooting for him to take over JAX.

Also not so interesting story: The only non-Raiders fan article I own is a Jaguars shirt I got when I was in the US. I still wear it regularly but it's starting to wash out. Lots of sentimental value though...go Jags :P

Mettenberger is going really high barring some kind of collapse, guys of his pedigree don't grow on trees.

Schiano's kind of a tough call. On the one hand, you'd really like to get him out of there before the end of the season since he's sucha dick to the players thsat he's going to hurt your chances of retaining players in free agency, and he probably is stunting players' develpoment, but at the same time the chances of the players rallying behind a new coach are so strong that you really I don't think you can fire him as long as you've got a legitimate chance at getting Bridgewater. I'd say let him stay until you get up 2 games on Jacksonville, then go ahead and fire him. Maybe wait for one more loss afterward so it doesn't look like you're actively tanking.

I feel like the optimal time to fire him would be after the MIA and ATL games, because those are winnable with competent coaching. After that, though, it's this:

@DET
@CAR
BUF
SF
@STL
@NO

I think even a decent coach goes 2-4 at best against that schedule. I could be wrong, though, because this is (or should be) a pretty talented team outside of QB and head coach.

edit: On the other hand, if he does win those games, it might be hard / look ridiculous to fire him after their only two wins of the season.

Marvin is absolutely awful.

It doesn't say much for scouting departments that the team with no scouts has built a stacked roster exclusively through the draft. Marvin flushes 2-3 wins a year down the toilet through pure idiocy.
