So the only thing that matters to you is how a team has played in a 5 game sample size? Not what we know from last year or this offseason. Not the injuries that the team has sustained coupled with the information of when those players will be back. Not the potential of the team and the possibility that in this 5 game sample size they could be playing below their potential. So you take Pitt in a pickem game on a neutral field tomorrow?

never said any of that, only that not caring at all about how teams have played is silly.

I'm arguing that any ranking system that has the Eagles 18th, equal to Miami, and behind Pitt is just way off. I know right now a lot of people especially on 2+2 think the Eagles are a lousy team with a good record, but I think it's much more likely that they are a good team currently playing lousy with a good record. I don't just sort by record and put them top 3, but I think they are without a doubt top 12 and I have them at 9, 18th is just way out there.

One would assume, but their idiot head coach said right after the game that they'll see how this week goes, etc as if he'll consider putting him out there again this week. Calvin clearly shouldn't have been on the field the past two weeks so I don't have much confidence the correct decision will be made this week.

Pretty sure Jim Caldwell doesn't dictate whether Calvin Johnson plays or not. If he says he's fine and it sounds like the ankle is probably going be bothering him all year then you gotta let him out there just so he has to be accounted for. Should be interesting to see how Tate will slot in as when Johnson has been out the offense has been AIDS forever

If he's able to be on the field, however hobbled, there's no reason to think that the ankle would be bothering him all year even if they rested him for a period of time. And what do you mean it isn't for Caldwell to decide?

I think if Johnson says he's good to go then you play him. Don't think you find many if any coaches who will make that decision where the player says he's good and you sit him. Realistically, if there is a time to sit him, it's right now leading up into the bye although divisional game, saints at home and atl in London are 3 fairly winnable games and he's so crucial to anything they do

If coaches are letting players decide if they're "ready to go" then they're clearly incompetent.

You're probably right for a number of coaches but overall I don't think the coaching pool is as far behind the times on this as they are on 4th down decisions, run-run-punt with the lead, etc situations.

It was great to hear Foster slam the league for TNF calling out their hypocrisy re: player safety.

Did he say more stuff? A few days ago on local sports radio they said he was talking **** about TNF, but then said don't get me wrong I like it or something. He must have had time to let the thought stir or something.

Foster's takes are getting incredibly hot. I'm guessing he has CTE already. His take was basically "The NFL is making money off us!"

BOILING HOT TAKE BRO. You are a deep thinker. Only employee in the world whose boss is making money off you.

Or, he's just a giant attention whore (we know this) who is trying to get people to talk about him tonight instead of Watt and Luck.

Got a kick out of this article, might have to go back and take that over on HGH test positives

Quote:
Giants running back Rashad Jennings, about as thoughtful and articulate a player as you'll find in an NFL locker room, chuckled when asked if he was selected for the testing. Jennings had a Band Aid on his right forearm as if blood had just been drawn.

"Haha. Nah, we had a little Quest Diagnostics [blood test] that we had to catch up on," Jennings said with a big laugh.

"HGH," he chuckled.

When told that the question was serious, Jennings was taken aback. He was stunned when reporters informed him that the league had, in fact, begun testing.

"Is it?" he said. "They're testing for that now? Really?"

Yep. Pro Football Talk reported that the NFL will conduction 950 HGH tests in the preseason, regular season and postseason. Another 385 in the offseason. That's 1,300 total every year, a large number in comparison to other sports.

The way it works is that, each week, a computer randomly selects five teams. Eight players from those five teams (either from the active roster or practice squad) will be subject to testing.

"I learned something new today," Jennings said. "They're really testing for that?"
Quote:
The veteran running back appeared curious about how the testing is going to work out. From the sound of it, he thinks it's going to make a significant impact.

"That changes a lot," he said.

that article is amazing. Glad I snagged some Andre Williams in FACKball. Hopefully Rashad's name comes up soon.

No I kind of agree with the good team playing lousy at the moment sentiment.

Vegas Insiders' books had it opening at 9 and currently at 8, with two of its predictors at 8.5

note that the meta-ranking for the Eagles is driven way down by ANFLS, which hates their start so far (29th in the NFL). remove that and they average 11.5 in the other 3 rankings. so to some degree ANFLS is an outlier here and I do think ANFLS is probably flawed in the early going b/c they outright ignore a team's history

I went there, but I didn't, and still don't, see how to get lines for week 8. Maybe I'm an idiot?

Click on the NFL tab (it's more of a link than a tab really, just below the big "NFL" banner and just to the right of "Home") then move your cursor down to "Vegas Odds" and click there, it should bring up all of them.

First column is opening line, next column is the current composite line, the other columns to the right are the individual books' current lines.

His reaction is like Christina Applegate's in the Matt Foley Motivational Speaker skit.

Phil Hartman: "The maid found some pot..."
Applegate: "She didn't smoke it, did she??"
