Playoffs > draft position. This is true even for the NFC South teams. Who knows what might happen once you make the playoffs and maybe the guy you want in the draft is available at #22 anyways.

Unless you've got a really horrendous head coach that has a chance to get fired by missing then making the playoffs is always good.

If I thought there was a chance Riverboat Chilly and/or the awful OC could get fired then I'd want the Panthers to miss the playoffs. Riverboat Chilly's job is apparently safe and maybe Shula will get canned regardless of what they do if/when they go back and look at the terrible job he's done. So may as well make the playoffs.

I know the NFC South has been bad, 10-29-1 out of division which is the worst mark by a division since realignment.

But historically, the NFC South has been arguably the most competitive division in the NFL.

Since 2002, each member of the NFC South has won the division exactly 3 times, with no consecutive division wins.

The NFC South has been competitive this year by your definition.

so the broncos qb coach must know that as soon as peyton retires from playing he's gonna be taking his job.

unless peyt wants to go coach college/hs for some reason

He'll go join Favre at Oak Grove.

draft has to be loaded (watt, last year) to even consider missing the playoffs for the draft pick. This isn't that year.

I'm not sure Peyton wants to be a coach after he's done playing. Maybe he'll decide it's time to rub some money on his titties and just chill.

Seahawks are gonna win the Super Bowl again, some investigative journalist is gonna uncover some massive PED ring and the Carroll-era Seahawks will go down as more fraudulent than the Spygate-era Pats.

its not just the draft pick tho (likely comparing the 10th vs 24th or so)

1. better draft pick for you
2. worse draft pick for competition
3. competition more likely to keep terrible coach

third one is probably most relevant. would love atlanta to both not improve in the draft and keep mike smith just so they can get pummeled in seattle or wherever

Obviously it's going to be Pitt or NE from the AFC with Baltimore deserving mention

You wanna know what has to happen for the Chefs to play the Colts?

To make playoffs:
Chefs beat Chargers
Browns beat Ravens
Jaguars beat Texans

That will give the Colts the 4 seed (they are locked there), and Chefs the 6 (only possible seed).

Then in playoffs:

Chefs win @ Steelers/Bengals/Broncos
Colts win vs Steelers/Bengals

Then in divisional round:

Chefs win @ Pats
Colts win @ Broncos/Bengals

Then finally the Colts will host the Chefs in the AFCCG.

Cliffs: Look just above you for playoff possibilities including seeding.

I could definitely see the benefits of a Panthers fan being OK with a loss to the Falcons, but I really do think Smith is gone after this season.

i would take their opponent straight up. i just don't feel like betting it though.

Arthur Blank is apparently ready to fire Mike Smith even if we make the playoffs barring a "deep run." Now, I think he should still be fired even if we win the SB, but that won't happen and I will take more Mike Smith for a SB win. I think he is still gone unless he makes the SB. A NFC Title game loss is probably not enough and 1 win then out is definitely not enough.

So yeah the broncos are definitely going to be one and done and lose to the pats in the AFC conference game, I'll bet someone on that
One and done (to me at least) has always meant to lose your first game. Played one and done.

lets just say theres a zero percent chance he stays with a loss but maybe 30-50% stay with a win then beating lolarizona and not losing by 40 in the next round

carolina seems to not want to fire mexican chilly for some reason. of course they also could have decided to actually be a good team by playing hardy all season but just went "nah lets tank all year then lose draft position in the last month"

even though Dallas beat Seattle?

ah h2h doesn't matter bc it will be a 3 way tie so it's conference/common games?

Yes because of conference record.

Lions and Seahawks would have identical conference records if Lions win which the next step is record vs common opponents with Seattle winning.

If Seattle wins, they are #1, and the NFC North champ is 2 (unless they tie and Dallas wins).
