Since their home states legalized marijuana, the Seahawks and Broncos have a combined 13-1 record.

Coincidence?

Seattle could still go into the playoffs as the #2 seed. It would take SF losing at home to the Cardinals, but if they play as bad as they did last night, it could happen.

They could host the NFC title game then since most people seem to expect the Falcons to go one and done in the playoffs.

Seahawks can get #2 seed with win vs. Rams, GB loss @ Vikings, and Cardinals win vs. 49ers

What happens when Chuck Pagano comes back and loses in week 17, and goes 1 and done in the playoffs, does his 1-4 record this year compared to Bruce Arians 9-3 record matter. lol.

AFC Playoff Scenarios (also available on ESPN)

Wild Card is locked in.

5. Indianapolis
6. Cincinnati

No matter what happens this weekend.

Houston gets the #1 Seed in the AFC with a win @IND this weekend, or losses by Denver and NE.

Denver gets the #1 Seed with a win v. KC and Houston loss. They clinch a bye with a win or NE loss.

NE gets the #1 Seed with a win v. Miami and losses by Houston AND Denver. They get a bye with a win and a loss by either Houston or Denver.

Baltimore gets the #3 Seed with win @CIN AND NE loss.

Baltimore gets the 3 if they win and the Pats lose as they would both be 11-5 and the Ravens won head to head AFAIK.

If the Colts lose and the Ravens win early, some merit to the Pats pulling all the starters and soft-tanking the late game.

NFC Playoff Scenarios

1. Falcons

is the only thing locked in. The road to New Orleans goes through the Georgia Dome.

I guess we'll go through teams by who needs the least help right now.

PACKERS

Clinched NFC North. They get the #2 Seed and a Bye with a win @MIN. They also get the #2 Seed with a loss and losses by SF AND Seattle

SAN FRANCISCO

Gets #2 Seed with win v. Arizona AND GB loss @MIN. Clinch NFC West with win v. ARI or SEA loss v. STL

SEATTLE

Clinched playoff berth. Win NFC West with win v. STL and SF loss. Get #2 seed with win AND GB Loss AND SF Loss.

TEAMS THAT HAVEN'T CLINCHED YET

WASHINGTON

Washington needs a win v. DAL to clinch NFC East. If they lose, they get in with losses by Chicago AND Minnesota.

MINNESOTA

Win and they clinch the #6 Seed. If they lose v. GB, they need losses by Chicago, Dallas, and New York.

DALLAS

One scenario for Dallas. They win@ WAS, they win the NFC East and the #4 Seed. They lose, they're out.

CHICAGO

Need a win @DET AND Minnesota loss v. GB

NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS

Need a win v. PHI + losses by Dallas, Chicago, and Minnesota

Football outsiders had the Cowboys chances of making the playoffs at 9% once upon a time.

If BAL/HOU win I really think NE should basically throw the game. They'd have to prefer the 4 in that situation to the 3.

Agree.

Home vs. Indy and likely @Houston is a better path for them than home vs. Cincy and @Denver.

CBS flexing the MIA/NE game to 4:25 is excellent for them. Assuming Denver wins like 97% of the time, the Pats will have almost complete information regarding whether to sit, start, or tank.

Maybe not.. but if HOU and BAL win then they increase their equity by throwing the game.

DEN losing as a 16 point favorite is too remote to care about. The 4 is simply better than the 3 in their case.

wow...week 17 games seriously blow a dick

Was @ Dal
Bal @ Cin
GB @ Min
Hou @ Ind

seem to be the only games with both teams playing for something, and those last 2 are no guarantee to even be close

I thought this was an interesting analysis by Barnwell at the bottom of the article where he examines the argument that Calvin Johnson benefits a lot from garbage time yards

I'm almost certain BB threw the Dolphins game in 2005 to angleshoot for the Colts rather than the Broncos... but Pittsburgh screwed that up by beating Cincy so they went to Denver anyway. I could definitely see him trying it again with the advantages that Chim points out. BB would absolutely do that.
