Also LOL @ Goodell loosening the drug policy after Captain America WASPy Wes Welker gets busted for drugs.

God damn man.
We've been making the "used car salesman/flipping burgers" jokes about guys out of the NFL for just about ever, and it's really happening. LOL.

I know I come across as a Goodie homer, but I don't think anyone actually works harder to analyze the game of football as a coach, try to understand the statistics, and manipulate his roster accordingly. BB took a very smart QB and worked through many situations to win that I don't think many other coaches could just mail in like we see today. He has a division, and he still rules it with impunity.

Credit goes to James Bamford, whose great book disabused me of that stuff and showed what a disastrous intelligence failure 9/11 was.

**** Gawker, BTW, since apparently they make their page hits off hit pieces.
Not that simple. As of 9 months ago, he was still making the same Truther conspiracy accusations:

Oops, I sent that tweet a little too early like the young lady from @BBCNews on the collapse of building 7 on 9/11...

So, has he really just in the last few months changed his mind, or are the posts from today an attempt to cover his ass and save his new job? I don't know. Neither do you.

And even if you want to invoke Chip, there's a reason BB invites Chip to joint practices and pick his brain.

Beware the man who never fears to adapt. BB is last on the list.

Is there any precedent in sports where they change player policy and undo suspensions like they're talking about? Seems very odd to me.

Doug Marrone sounds like a cool guy.

Quote:
Marrone has also clashed with some players this offseason, most frequently linebacker Jerry Hughes, team sources said, and has made comments around the team which have drawn the ire of some players. Sources said Marrone has referred to himself as "Saint Doug" at times, referencing the fact that it takes two miracles to be canonized as a saint, and that he already pulled off one miracle by winning at Syracuse and alluding to the fact it would take another miracle to win in Buffalo.

I would love it if somebody who knows football could break down why its so difficult to exploit Seattle's policy of always playing Sherman on one side.

Short answer : execution. Pete believes in a simpler scheme that the team can execute to perfection consistently is better than dozens of exotic schemes. Sherman on the left can focus on being nothing but the best LCB he can be. It also frees up Maxwell to focus on nothing but being the best RCB he can be.

Both Denver and Green Bay tried by lining up their lesser outside receiver on Sherman's side every play and just not looking in his direction all day. This makes their offense tremendously exploitable though.

The best way to beat him is finding a receiver who's very physical and/or a very good route runner (Andre, Stevie, Marshall, for example) and come straight at him.

They play primarily man, right? Is it significantly different playing man on the left vs the right?

Do they do anything with their safeties/linebackers to account for the fact that the two strongest opposing receivers are almost always going to be covered by their weaker cbs? Or that the offense is going to be disproportionately focused on one side of the field?

It's more of a press-zone. Press at the line, drop, and then make the call to continue to run with your receiver or pass him off.

I don't think anybody thinks that, least of all the Seahawks. The interesting thing is that their strategy seems on its face terrible (wasting one of the best corners in the league on a tertiary target when your opponent has two excellent receivers), but is clearly working quite well for them.

It makes rolling coverage a whole lot easier when ~half the field is gone, and it effectively turned the Packers scrub RT into the blindside tackle.

So, not that impressive on its own but very helpful for the defense overall.

With half the field erased, it turned Aaron Rodgers into Colin Kaepernick.

Umm, it's not half the field though. It's one receiver right? They still threw to Sherm's side of the field several times, not just to his man.

You would need more than 1 good receiver to exploit it imo, but it's not like Seattle's other DBs are cupcakes.

CB's are also more effective on one side of the field than following but sometimes that's needed out of necessity. Really we as fans just wanted matchup vs matchup rather than what's best for Seattle's defense.

So marrone is a crazy hothead. Yell at boss, then when owner tries to stop it, go right ahead and continue one with owner even saying go ahead and fire me. Then start calling yourself a saint b/c of miracles. Well that's true, b/c it sounds like it's a darn miracle you ever got hired in the first place.

If I was that owner, there's a very good chance that would've happened right then and there. Yes, even before week 1 of the season... If you don't want that job I'll find someone that does you can GTFO.
