He's very good but he would not make any top 20 players of all time lists and perhaps not even top 50. The things he excels at, which is basically open field running and cutbacks, as you may have noticed, make him a more natural fit as a punt returner than some other athletes who might be rated as better all-round rugby league players.

By the way, that hit he executed on the cornerback is called a shoulder charge in the NRL and has been banned since 2013. He probably enjoyed being able to lay one of them again.

Shoulder charge is usually by a defender on a ball carrier btw, but it's the same move.

Also if Tomsula doesn't dial up some trick lateral plays involving Hayne this season it will be a wasted opportunity. Hayne can probably accurately bullet the thing half the width of the field. From what I understand the niners are going to be awful anyway and have a terrible O-line, so they might as well roll the dice on some new offensive ideas.

Was going to say exactly the same thing. He gets labelled a freak for what he excels at but by no means is he considered a 'great' in the game (yet). That's not to say he couldn't have been.

The NRL has its list of 'immortals' (basically hall of fame) which gets added to each year. I doubt he was ever really considered. He had one amazing season and won the player of the year award.

It's hard though to think of many other NRL players that would excel in a running position in NFL to the extent that Hayne might but there are certainly a number of them that are at his level. Tuivasa-Scheck is possibly better in terms of explosiveness, speed and elusiveness and he plays the same position as Hayne. Others like Billy Slater or Michael Jennings with their acceleration and speed could be useful also.

Yeah that was a terrible troll. I watched the video and Winston didn't look anything like Hayne. He had one good play and the rest was him getting pretty good blocks.
