Jason Peters seems to think so. "I didn’t like it all,” offensive lineman Jason Peters said (via Philly.com). “Being a veteran player like himself, an all-pro, you’d think he had better sense than that, to take a shot at a quarterback like that in the preseason.” “He was trying to take a cheap shot at the quarterback,” Peters said. “I’m pretty sure he planned it. We practiced against them all week. I’m pretty sure he was thinking about it.”

Suggs disagrees. "When you run the read option you have the know the rules,” Suggs told reporters. “If you want to run the read option with your starting quarterback that’s had two knee surgeries that’s on you. That’s not my responsibility to update you on the rule.”
After hearing so much about it I expected it to be way worse than this. Didn't think it was really that bad

I would have cringed if the pack signed Wayne.

He's a bag of ****.

In this one the guy has like five seconds to decide his actions. He chooses scumbaggery.

Suggs doesn't appear to look for who has the ball at all, beelines for Bradford. Apparently their 1st team defense couldn't stop Bradford in joint practices, where Bradford couldn't be hit. I think he just decided, as soon as it looks a read option I'm hitting the QB low because the rules say I can. Decent chance it was planned IMO.

RB might be the least complicated position on the field. Lack of intelligence doesn't seem like a deal-breaker to be good at it anyway.

What do you mean by "intelligence"? It can be a surprisingly complicated position-- many talented runners can't find steady jobs because they can't pick up the nuances of pass protection and the like. There's also a certain type of intelligence to the kind of vision and patience it takes to be a good RB, to let your blocks set up, to tell the defense the right story, etc.

I mention all this because of the Richardson mention... he's a guy who had the physical talent but from the chatter I've heard is just completely disinterested in the game when he's not on the field. That kind of discipline and engagement is a form of intelligence as well.

There was an iq list a few years back and RB was a bottom 3 intelligence position. FBs were the lowest at 88 iirc. Then WRs and RBs were 90 and 92 in some order iirc. QBs and Oline were smartest

Ability to grasp a complex scheme, mostly. Not that the position is easy, but it's not as hard to pick up as anything along the oline or the hundreds of route trees that wrs have to memorize. Vision is important and may not be correlated to intelligence, but every position has those little nuances that you need to be "football smart" to learn.

Also, abject moron Chris Johnson ran for 2,000 yards.

Yeah, it is a position that generally requires less learning at the NFL level, I'll give you that. It's generally the easiest for a rookie to adjust.

Lache Seastrunk is a good example of a running back who is very talented but whose football intelligence rates in the "abject moron" scale, which is why despite his talent he was a sixth-round pick last year who's been cut by three teams already.

RB is the easiest position to learn. Follow the blockers, find the hole, and run really fast. And try not to get run over on pass plays.

I'm all aboard. Hayne is a pure boss. Better idea to give it to him every snap than dial up another bullet into triple coverage.

Heard on the radio over here in Sydney this morning they're running competitions to win an all expenses paid trip to San Francisco to see Hayne play in round 1 of the season.

At least if he doesn't make it that will appeal to my sense of humour.

I'm Aussie and Hayne is not dumb at all. I mean he's not super smart or anything but he's smart enough to know which holes to hit and/or who to follow and once he gets past/through the d-line he's in his element. Hayne is one of the best players in the history of our game once he's in open play. Rugby league is sort've like a game played by different sized RB's anyway without blockers. The playbook is the biggest obstacle to Hayne having a chance of making the team. But once he's in open space he doesn't even have to think about it. Nobody who knows anything about sport down here thinks he's going to become one of the great of the game or anything but there's a reason he's doing a lot better than anyone thought he would. This is what he can do with a bit of space.

TRich ran a 4.45 40...he's not slow physically. Just in other ways.

As a side note, it seems like one answer to "What makes a quarterback elite?" might be "He throws past the first-down marker on third down."
