just a reminder that the Panthers also had Brian Burns at that time and only got a 2nd rounder for him...at aged 25

those 16.5 sacks might have come in handy this season

never mind though, the Panthers managed to get Jonathan Brooks (22 yards from 9 total carries) and Xavier Legette 84 receptions for 860 yards in two years as a very disappointing starter with the picks they eventually got

for me. In the weird event those are all gone, I wouldn't be above taking a WR/RB. They need to draft BPA instead of another bust project for "need." Instead they will end up passing on all of those dudes for like Faulk or some other bust in the making with a high RAS score and no production.

Joe Brady seems like the most uninspiring, keep Josh happy hire possible

Monken to Browns HC.

Reasonable hire I think. A touch surprising he didn't follow Harbaugh to NYG considering it sounded like to some degree Harbs wouldn't consider axing him in BAL and that may have partly led to his firing. But gotta take the head coach opportunity while it's there I guess.

Current cap space figures heading into the offseason

Seahawks have 4th most space despite having a very well rounded roster already

Broncos need WR, RB, and maybe OL. Wilsons $32 mil cap hit is gone so IDK if they can trade for AJ Brown, not sure what the cap hit for Philly would be. Chargers and Seahawks are in great cap positions.

Those cap figures may be correct as of right now. But cap space is funny noney. ie Kick the can down the road. Analyst said the Cowboys could restructure 6 contracts and free up 100 million in cap space if they wanted to. Teams 'massage' the cap all the time.

I guess at some point the credit card bill becomes due, but pretty much any team can sign whoever they want.

You're way more into the cap than me, so I'm probably not breaking any news to you.

that's definitely true and certain teams....often the most aggressive ones eg Eagles, Saints do that constantly and it's a way to spend more overall cash but push the cap pain down the track. the MO is long contracts with large up front signing bonuses then additional option bonuses or a restructure in yr 2 and often subsequent years.

A yr 2 salary of $20m means a cap hit in that year of $20m.
A $20m option bonus in yr 2 of a 5 yr contract will spread the $20m cap hit equally over the remaining 4 years....so only a $5m cap hit in yr 2.
But...to state the obvious, it means an extra $5m is on the cap for each subsequent year too.

The most aggressive also add void years to the contracts, as a way of spreading cap hit beyond when the player will be on the roster, basically ensuring there'll be dead money in the future. What does the GM care...he probably wont be there by then!

but it can go horribly wrong - look at DeShaun Watson's cap hit and dead cap. He has an $80m cap hit in 2026 when he probably won't play AND there is already $55m of dead cap to pay in future years.

Cheaper franchises don't do this too often and those franchises include the Cowboys and the Patriots, who've spent the least cash in the past 5 years I think

Yep everything I've read or heard is the Cowboys are at our near the bottom in actual cash outlay over that time frame.
