9ers have no QB right now

draft articles "would be foolish to take one @ #2 overall"

so uh, what the hell is the plan then? Yet another season to the lol rebuild so far?
9ers were rebuilding next season in almost every situation. There are a number of QB options in FA. Krap could be back, hopefully not though. Cutler is on the market--I hate that guy though.

Sounds like Redskins GM Scot McCloughan is back on the drink.

Random crap for this morning:

* Kaep expected to stand during national anthems next year.
* Rumors that the Titans, or less likely the Eagles, might trade for Cooks (that would be a problem for one of my dynasty teams).
* Isa Abdul-Quddus might miss the 2017 season (this does not impact any of my dynasty teams).
* Titans resign Matt Cassell.
* Eagles claim teams are interested in trading for Chase Daniel. Well, I assume that's where that comes from at least. Not sure why he would be more valuable to another team than he is to the Eagles?
* Titans & Browns both could be interested in trading down if the right offer is on the table (as should anyone...it just depends what the right offer is).
* I guess Bruce Allen is running the Redskins right now because Scot is "dealing with family matters"...I guess cuz he's drunk?
* 49ers, Titans & Eagles are teams supposed to be very interested in Alshon.

That could make for a rough Redskins off-season...

I saw this LINK at the bottom of the article...

("Cousins shoves volunteer official at charity flag football game")

The best part is he took it that seriously & couldn't beat Doug Flutie.

There are plenty of worse options than Kaep out there right now.

Would love to know how much money T Pryor is asking for that the Browns haven't re-signed him yet. I mean, I know they drafted 37 wideouts last year but none of them showed much and Pryor caught 1k in his first year as a wideout from a motley crew of QBs and by all accounts is a decent guy

I believe I recall the Browns were somewhere in the $10m/year range & he was somewhere in the $13m/year range, but I think that was a couple weeks ago.

Washington Post reporting that Redskins are offering Cousins $20m/year & he wants $24m/year plus (but that he would have taken $20m/year last off-season).

49ers seeking leverage in the Cousins fiasco...John Lynch claims Deshone Kizer "blew the doors off" his interview with them today. Which is an awful weird thing to say if you intend to draft him at #2. Or if you don't like weird pointless metaphors.

Apparently the 9ers had a bathroom in the interview area and Kizer had eaten something that didn't agree with him.

Mike Glennon update:

He is still very tall & very white.

Expected by many to go to Jets.

If Saints get a 1st for Cooks that is a really nice haul even if it doesn't necessarily matchup with the Brees window to win.

He is a solid WR but I think a lot of his success has to do with being on the Saints and some of those shootouts they get into. Is due a big contract soon as well.

Would've guessed he would net a 2nd.

Got to pay him soon too.

Saints keep developing and then trading those pass catchers. Must piss Brees off

I don't think that's the spirit in which the question was meant. Plus, why would you assume that?

Either that, or Bruce Allen is mad that McCloughan is getting credit for things and has been working to push him out. What a ****ed-up organization.

Polian is a god damn idiot who doesn't think TO or Moss should be in the Hall of Fame. Because of character, says the guy who drafted Marvin Harrison and Rae Carruth, and who thinks Chad Kelly is the best QB in this draft. And he ruined Indy through nepotism.

This class is quite good at QB, better than last year's. (There are no slam-dunk Luck or even Winston types, but Watson is close to Winston and I think Mahomes and Kizer are also better than anyone in last year's class-- Dak might be an exception, but nobody knew Dak was this good so it hardly counts from a prospecting standpoint.) Darnold and Rosen are reasons to be optimistic about 2018 but UCLA's lack of winning with Rosen (especially compared to fifth-round "one read running QB" Brett Hundley) worries me.

Yeah, it looks like they'll probably get 18, or move up from 11 to 5 & get some more stuff.

Dak fell a bunch due to DUI as well.

From 3/24/16 (rest of the post is about the RG3 signing):

There's really not any downside for the Browns. If they're sold on one of the QBs, they still draft them 2, & if they aren't, they aren't locked into having to reach for one @ 2. Could either trade down our draft someone else & maybe go QB later.

Now that Dak is a drunk driver, maybe grab him in the 4th.

This also doesn't mess with their compensatory picks since he was released (looks like they're still on track for 4, 4, 4, 5).
Instead they drafted:

3rd Round (#93): QB Cody Kessler.
4th Round (#99): LB Joe Schobert.
4th Round (#114): WR Ricardo Louis.
4th Round (#129): S Derrick Kindred.

& Dak went #135.

I wonder how Dak would have looked on the Browns?

Probably not as good as he would have on the Cowboys, but his talent is really obvious on the field. So I'd reckon "better than anyone they have now" is a safe bet.

Word leaking that Hue loves Trubisky. Man, and here I thought if one organization and coach might get over the white-mediocrity thing... but Kessler and Trubisky instead of Dak or Cardale / Watson or Mahomes or Kizer makes me a sad panda.

Trubisky might not be mediocre, but I'm concerned that he only has one year of starting experience and that he's older. The other three guys, as well as Brad Kaaya, won starting jobs by 19. (They'll turn 22 during September, except Kizer who won't until next January.) Trubisky couldn't win the job until he was 22. I think teams project growth onto him because of his lack of experience, but I kinda think the opposite-- his age gives him less room to grow, and his talent not winning out before then is worrying.

Yeah, I don't understand these intentional leaks regarding what a team is thinking. Taking Trubisky #1 seems dumb, & making it clear that you'd be looking to get him at #12 or trade up to get him from there seems dumb.

I assume there's some strategy to the leaks from the Browns & the statements from the 49ers, but I'm not sure what it is.
NFL Off-Season 2017 Quote

I wish I had kept a better dossier of these things, because some teams will actually indicate real interest with a leak, and others will leak everyone except the guy they're interested in. (The one I remember for sure last year is San Diego, who was rumored to be interested in literally every top prospect except Joey Bosa.)

BTW, I wouldn't mind the Cooks trade if they got #18 for it. If they get an edge (or Lattimore) and a QB of the future, I'm thrilled. Get a WR on day 2 and a CB (or edge if they take Lattimore). Maybe a guard. And for the love of God stop trading up so much.

Saints getting a 1st for cooks would be robbery. Cooks is hilariously lol

you think the browns/49ers are smart enough to do something like this?

I think the Browns are "smart"...but they seem bad at drafting so far.

I know John Lynch isn't smart, but since Shanny is going to be 100% responsible for the QB decision, maybe the plan is to just let him say whatever the hell he wants since it will do nothing but confuse other teams & Shanny won't tell him what the actual plan is.

I mean, he has a small catch radius and can't really be a consistent go-to guy when you need a play, but I wouldn't call 84/1138/9 at 22 and 78/1173/8 at 23 "hilariously lol."

Fun fact: Michael Thomas is six months older than Brandin Cooks.
