Sheldon's the biggest winner of the trade, goes from playing out of position on LOL team to fitting in nicely on likely division winner/SB contender. He's also the best run defender in the league, when he wants to be.

The Jets gain a pick from a guy who's contract was ending anyway while they're obviously tanking (and they wouldn't have gotten a comp pick likely, the Jets need to blow $ in FA next year) and a professional WR. Not a good one, but one nonetheless.

There's logic but a certain irony in them eating $16m of Brock's salary but then not wanting to eat $7m of Haden's when he would have played but just not as good as before

You pay them to leave.

Seahawks also traded for CB Justin Coleman, giving the Patriots "a late round pick", whatever that means.

I guess this is a step up for the Browns, cutting an overpaid QB before he even gets a chance to lose a regular season game.

And I actually thought we were talking about Tramaine Brock, who Seattle signed two weeks ago and just traded to Minnesota for a seventh-rounder.

I think guys like Osweiler demonstrate the value of QB a lot more than guys like Stafford , who has recently been discussed to death.

Here's a guy who anyone with eyes should have realized had almost no shot of being an effective starter. The chance wasn't zero, but it was pretty slim. And in pursuit of that chance, teams will pay him ~$40 million (and he's probably not done yet).

Starting QBs are so rare and so valuable, that flushing that much money down the drain actually makes sense to a lot of teams.

Knile Davis was cut too...some sites are going to have to update their depth charts...

He was always going to be their back-up RB, though. Even though he's not good at football.

More so I think it demonstrates the value of not doing dumbazz things, but that's another way to look at it.

Hey let's talk quarterbacks

Cian Fahey published his QB rankings and tiers a few days ago. Ranks 32 starters + you know who.

Also made the entire chapter on the latter from his book available publicly here.

Spoilers for the two folks we've been talking about recently:

Spoiler:
Colin Kaepernick is #18, at the top of Tier 4

Spoiler:
Matthew Stafford is #17, at the bottom of Tier 3

Derek Anderson?

We shall see. I think he plays too stiff & accelerates too slowly to ever be particularly effective.
